Wyke Goals: Zac, Connor. cheers

First Half
There was not much goal action in the early stages but Brighouse had the first effort and Connor gathered the ball comfortably. The midfield battle was good and tackles were tough but clean. Both defences looked solid too. Wyke had their first chance on goal midway through the half and it produced the first goal of the game. Lewis received the ball at the back and threaded a perfect defence splitting ball through to Zac who held off the last defender and smashed a first time shot at goal. The ball hit the keeper on the shoulder and flew in to the top of the net to give Wyke a welcome lead. Brighouse came straight back however and equalised in the next minute with a well worked move finishing in a fine diagonal shot that beat Connor with his attention distracted from the on-rushing attackers. Zac made a decisive break that ended with a shot going wide. Then in the closing moments of the half a cruel blow to Wyke was dealt. Brighouse worked the ball to the right and a strong long-range shot was directed to the left hand corner. Connor stretched and got a hand to it but it wasn’t enough to keep it out and Brighouse took a lead into half time.

Second Half
Wyke began strongly and from a free kick, Owen fired a shot just wide. Connor let fly next with a volley from distance that stung the keeper’s hands but he clung on well. Zac tried his luck next but fired over the bar. Jack had a chance too but drilled the ball wide. Owen won another free kick but once more shot just over the bar. Lewis played a great through ball to Zac and just when Wyke’s big effort was about to pay off, he lost control and the keeper was able to gather the ball. Brighouse came back and Ben was forced in to a nice save. He was helpless moments later though when Brighouse scored against the run of play to take a two-goal cushion. Wyke responding immediately to narrow the gap again when Connor tried his luck from distance and as the ball headed toward the left hand corner of the net, the keeper got down well to get a hand to it but couldn’t hold on and the ball bobbled over his body and rolled over the line just before Zac raced in to make sure. The game could have gone either way at this stage. Ben made a good save before Wyke seemed to switch off and allowed the home team to score two quick goals. Ben made another good save before Lewis found room for a shot that was too close to the keeper. Brighouse scored a sixth goal in the last minute to give them a flattering winning margin.

Summary
A fantastic performance from Wyke ended with a score-line that didn’t tell the tale. After an even first half, Wyke dominated the early stages of the second half but when they couldn’t get in front, they lost momentum and concentration to leak three late goals. Connor was safe in goal before showing skill at wingback and scored his first goal of the season. Zac was effective up front and scored a great goal. Lewis and Ben played solid games. Jack tried hard in midfield and Owen led by example with a true captain’s performance.

Wyke Goals: Danny, Nathan. cheers

First Half
A player shortage meant that Connor played in goal for the first half and Owen for the second period. Wyke started well and had the first chance of the game when Bailey passed to Nathan and his shot was well saved. Matthew then played in Nathan but he lost control and could only shoot wide. Bailey had a shot saved next before Connor made a good stop. Brighouse took the lead though when they cut through the defence and Connor was beaten at the near post by a fierce close range shot. Wyke came back and won a free kick that Danny fired just wide. Brighouse began to get on top and Wyke were forced on to the back foot. The home side scored a well-deserved second after putting a lot of pressure on Wyke. Matthew played in Nathan again on the stroke of half time but he fired over the bar.

Second Half
Nathan had a chance at the start of the half but shot wide. Brighouse countered and Owen made a fine stop. Ben played in Nathan but again he couldn’t find the net as the keeper gathered the ball. Wyke continued to attack and Jared put Bailey through but his left foot shot drifted wide. Matthew was then fouled on the edge of the area and Wyke got back in to the game when Danny rifled the direct free kick in to the top left hand corner. The game was end to end now and Owen made a timely interception as Brighouse threatened the Wyke goal. Nathan put pressure on the home defence and as Matthew cam in to intercept a Brighouse mistake let the ball bobble to Nathan and he fired it in to the bottom of the net for a deserved equaliser. Danny then played in Matthew and his shot was saved. Bailey took a throw to Matthew who shot wide. Bailey took another throw to Matthew who this time found the keepers welcome arms. Brighouse then worked the ball to their striker who was one-on-one with Owen. Owen came out to narrow the angle and the striker rushed his shot wide. Moments later the same happened again as Owen kept Wyke in the game. Nathan had a shot at the other end but it was well saved. Brighouse finished the stronger however and Owen was forced in to coming out to clear the ball three times as the Wyke defence were constantly beaten. The final whistle blew and honours were shared in a pulsating game.

Summary
A strong Wyke performance saw them come back from 2-0 down to share the spoils in a great end-to-end game. Connor made some fine saves in the first half while Owen was outstanding in goal for the second period. Jared defended solidly while Danny got a great goal that boosted his confidence and he showed improvement afterwards. Bailey had a good all round game despite carrying an injury. Matthew tackled brilliantly and was a threat when moving up field. Nathan finally scored a good goal after having countless chances.

MoM: Matthew
