Score: 5-0 (HT 1-0)

Wyke Goals: scratch

First Half
The home team began strongly and Wyke were soon on the back foot. Connor made a good save in the first minute while Lewis and Owen got in crucial tackles. Gomersal passed the ball around well and as Wyke chased shadows they were lucky to not concede early on. Three times in succession Gomersal worked the ball to an un-marked player at the far post but the first two attempts were sliced wide before the inevitable third attempt found the back of the net. This sparked Wyke in to action and Owen made a strong run before shooting wide from range. Lewis put pressure on the Gomersal defence and forced a corner that came to nothing. Owen was tripped when slicing through the defence and his direct free kick was well saved before the ball was scrambled for a corner that again came to nothing. Connor kept Wyke in the game with two superb stops when one-on-one with a Gomersal attacker. Lewis took a quick throw to Owen and he turned smartly to fire a shot at goal but a deflection sent the ball kindly in to the keeper’s arms. Owen had the last chance of the half with a shot from long range that went straight to the keeper.

Second Half
Zac went in goal at the start of the half and Wyke had the first goal chance when Owen fed the ball to Lewis but he fired wide of the mark. The next ten minutes was a midfield battle as both teams defended strongly. Zac made three good saves as Gomersal began to gain the upper hand and the Wyke defence was beginning to get ragged and a bit desperate. Gomersal forced a corner that was cleared at first but the follow up shot went past everyone and in to the net. Gomersal then scored another quick goal and the Wyke heads dropped. Owen went in goal (begrudgingly) and immediately made a good save. Gomersal continued to attack and scored two late goals to give a flattering score-line.

Summary
Wyke put in a determined performance against a well-drilled Gomersal & Cleckheaton outfit. An inability to score was punished by conceding four late goals that exaggerated the winning margin. Connor was great in goal before defending well and also made some good breaks. Lewis and Owen were a little subdued compared to their usual high standards. Jack and Mason tried hard but never really got in to the game. Zac ran hard but took a knock before half-time, that limited his ability.

Gomersal & Cleckheaton C v Wyke Wanderers B

Wyke B
Nathan Aylott
Ben Boocock
Matthew Brumfitt
Bailey Clarkson
Bailey Evans
Daniel Gledhill (captain)
Jarad Muff

Score: 5-1 (HT 3-0)

Wyke Goals: Matthew Very Happy

First Half
Both sides began tentatively but Wyke created most of the early chances. Bailey E. made a good save from a free kick after Jarad had tripped a Gomersal attacker on the edge of the area. Bailey C. then made a strong run before shooting straight at the keeper. Bailey C. was again involved as he played in Nathan but when one-on-one with the keeper he shot straight at him. Bailey C. tried his luck again but this time fired the ball wide. Ben took a throw to Nathan and he shot but found the keeper too good once more. Gomersal then went ahead as the Wyke defence stood off. Bailey E. made a great save before the home team scored two quick goals before half-time to hold a strong lead.

Second Half
Jarad went in goal for the second period. Bailey E. had the first chance but shot straight at the keeper. Jarad made a smart save before being helpless to stop the Gomersal fourth goal. Wyke didn’t give in though and got a goal back when Ben played a great through ball to Matthew who was hanging off the last defender and he took his chance well by drilling the ball in to the bottom right hand corner of the net. Some good defending all round meant that there were not many more goal chances but of the few Gomersal got a fifth goal before a muddied Jarad made a great save.

Summary
This was a gutsy display from Wyke who scored a good goal but were eventually over-powered by a strong home unit. Jarad was focused and performed creditably. Bailey E. made some good saves and fierce tackles. Nathan got in to some good positions but couldn’t beat the keeper. Danny drifted in and out of the game while Bailey C. struggled after taking an early knock. Ben played a reliable game and was at the heart of most Wyke moves. Matthew hung about up front and was rewarded with his usual predator goal.

MoM: Jarad
