Battyeford A v Wyke Wanderers A

Wyke A
Connor Barran
Ben Boocock (captain)
Lewis Evans
Jack Hewitt-Hill
Owen Khan
Charlie Smith

Score: 3-1 (HT 1-1)

Wyke Goals: OG

First Half
Wyke began strongly and Charlie had the first chance of the game but hit his shot a bit early and the ball drifted wide. He was on target moments later though when the home keeper was called in to making a good save. Battyeford forced a corner that found an unmarked player who shot but Connor made a fine stop. Battyeford were in front soon after however when Connor did well to get a hand to a rasping long shot but could only palm the ball in to the path of an on-rushing attacker who tapped in to an empty net. Wyke battled back and were not behind for long. Owen drove down the right flank and sent in a cross come shot that was deflected in to his own net by a Battyeford defender. Owen had another chance before half time but his shot was saved and honours were even at the break.

Second Half
Ben and Connor swapped around for the second period and Ben was unfortunate to be picking the ball out of the net after only a couple of minutes as Battyeford upped their game. Wyke had to defend strongly as the home side threatened to over run them. From a home corner, a shot whisked wide before another shot flew just over the crossbar. Ten minutes of attrition followed where neither side got in to a rhythm that was not surprising given the freezing and damp conditions. Battyeford got a third goal near the end and Charlie finished a good move with a shot wide of the mark as the home side ran out worthy winners.

Summary
This was a very good performance from Wyke considering the lack of recent practice and matches. The delayed start in wintery conditions did not help the game as all players struggled to warm to the task. Connor was excellent in goal before reverting to a solid defensive role. Ben was strong in the tackle before keeping goal stoutly. Lewis mopped up most of the Battyeford attacks. Jack tried hard but struggled to get the ball. (MoM) Owen ran hard and created Wyke’s best chances. Charlie struggled to find the net but tracked back well.

Battyeford C v Wyke Wanderers B

Wyke B
Nathan Aylott
Bailey Clarkson
Bailey Evans
Mason Evans
Daniel Gledhill
Jarad Muff (captain)

Score: 8-0 (HT 4-0)

Wyke Goals:

First Half
Nathan had the first chance of the game but shot straight at the keeper as Wyke showed promise at the start. The home side then rattled in three quick goals and the Wyke heads went down. Bailey C. made his first save soon after and then Bailey E. shot wide as Wyke dug in again. Battyeford scored a fourth just before half time as the conditions worsened.

Second Half
Bailey C and Bailey E swapped roles at half time but Battyeford scored a fifth after the re-start and continued to push forward. Wyke tried their best but were left chasing shadows (well they would have been if the sun had come out!). The home side forced two consecutive corners and from the second one, they scored their sixth goal. Danny took a knock midway through the half that must have been ten times worse due to the cold and Wyke had to finish the game a man down. Bailey E. made three fantastic saves to keep Battyeford out as Wyke fought hard. They couldn’t get out of their own half though and Bailey E. made another trio of super saves before eventually the home side scored another two at the end.

Summary
True respect goes to the lads for seeing the game out after waiting for an hour and a half in the cold rain. Nathan chased the ball without having much look. Bailey C. kept goal well before showing some good skills outfield. Bailey E. was strong in the tackle before doing extremely well in goal. Mason was at the heart of everything and led by example. Danny tried his best but found the conditions too hard and went off injured. Jarad did his best too but was swamped by a tide of attacks.

MoM: Mason & Nathan (joint)
