Score: 0-4 (HT 0-1)

Wyke Goals: Owen (2), Charlie B & Ethan.

First Half
Despite the wet and windy conditions, Wyke bounced out of the stalls and soon had Brighouse on the back foot. Owen fired an early shot wide before having another effort blocked for a corner that was cleared. Charlie B. then had a good run and shot that was saved. Charlie S. was seeing plenty of the ball up front and his first chance went a begging as the ball rolled passed the dead ball line. Charlie S. took a Wyke throw after that to Owen and he volleyed wide with a good first time effort. Owen had another chance soon after but his shot was blocked and the ball fell kindly to Charlie S. but his shot was deflected wide for a corner that came to nothing. Charlie B. tried his luck next but his shot was deflected wide for another corner. Owen swung it in and Charlie B. hit it first time but again wide of the goal. The first goal finally came when Owen made himself room and fired the ball in to the back of the net. Connor comfortably made his only save well in to the first half as Brighouse struggled to mount an effort. Zac took a throw in to Charlie S. but he fired wide again. Zac then had a run of his own but ran out of room and the ball went dead. Charlie B. had another shot which again went wide as Brighouse counted themselves lucky to be only one down. After another Zac throw, Owen’s shot was deflected for a corner. Ethan then took a throw in and the ball fell kindly to Charlie S. but his shot too was deflected for a corner. Owen’s corner was met by Charlie S. who fired wide. The half ended with the Brighouse keeper hanging on gratefully to an Owen shot.

Second Half
Brighouse started well and a corner was deflected toward goal before hitting the outside of the post and going out for another corner that came to nothing. Wyke soon got back in to attack mode though and Owen fired wide before Zac followed suit just after. Zac then saw another of his efforts hit the post, as Wyke got closer to scoring another goal. To their credit, Brighouse dug deep and kept Wyke at bay until the last four minutes, when the Wyke battering ram finally broke through the home defence. The second goal came from a great solo effort by Charlie B. who beat several opponents before sweeping the ball beyond the Brighouse keeper. Ethan then made it three with another fine solo effort that saw him weave past a couple of defenders and then fire the ball in to the back of the net. Charlie S., who had swapped with Connor in goal at half time, made an easy save with his virtual only touch of the second period and Lewis and Connor had little trouble at the back. Owen played a good pass through to Zac next and it should have been four but the keeper did well when one-on-one. Wyke had the final say though when Ethan had another good run and shot that was blocked and fell to Owen, who lashed the ball between the sticks to the delight of all the travelling supporters.

Summary
Brilliant Wyke won a good game and kept their first clean sheet of the season. Connor and Lewis were solid at the back. Ethan scored a fine opportunist goal. Owen stepped up his game and was rewarded with two goals. Charlie B. was strong again in midfield and scored another great solo effort. Charlie S. was involved in most attacks and was unlucky not to find the net. Zac played well when called upon.

Brighouse D v Wyke Wanderers B

Wyke B
Nathan Aylott
Ben Boocock
Matthew Brumfitt
Bailey Clarkson (captain)
Daniel Gledhill
Jack Hewitt-Hill
Jarad Muff
Sam Preston

Score: 2-3 (HT 2-1)

Wyke Goals: Nathan, Matthew & Jack.

First Half
Brighouse began well and Bailey was soon in action as he came out of goal to kick the ball clear. Wyke countered and were in front after a couple of minutes when Jack took a throw in to Nathan who fired the ball in to the bottom left hand corner of the net. It could have been two a minute later when Nathan played in Matthew but his shot was cleared off the line by a last ditch defenders effort. At the other end Jarad did well to intercept a dangerous looking Brighouse attack. Bailey then made a fine save. Nathan had a run and shot that was saved before Jarad once more broke up a Brighouse counter- attack. Brighouse then levelled the scores as Ben and Danny left a cross for each other and a welcome Brighouse striker tucked the ball passed Bailey. Jack had a shot that was saved before Brighouse took the lead again when more indecision by Jarad, Sam and Ben in their own penalty area allowed the ball to roll invitingly to a Brighouse player and he showed no mercy by drilling it in to the net for a home side, half time advantage.

Second Half
Brighouse had the first shot of the second period but the ball rolled wide. Wyke were soon back on level terms though with a sweeping attack. Matthew started the move by passing to Jack who in turn passed to Bailey and he worked the ball back to Matthew who slid the ball passed the keeper. A long clearance from the outstanding Brighouse keeper then kept Danny on his toes in goal. Danny then made a good save before watching another shot drift wide as Brighouse searched for a winner. Wyke were also looking for a winning goal and almost found it with another great passing move. With the ball in hand, Danny tapped it out to Bailey, he ran in to room and passed to Sam who drove toward goal before feeding the ball to Matthew and if the keeper hadn’t been in the way it could have been one of the goals of the season. Spurred on, Wyke mounted attack after attack. Jack had a shot well saved. Then Bailey took a throw in and threw the ball in to the penalty area but the good home keeper was the most alert again as he came out to claim it. Matthew then had a shot saved before Wyke finally found a way past the resolute keeper in the final minute of the game. Matthew darted into the penalty area and the ball rolled nicely in to the path of Jack who fired the ball in to the back of the net to the delirious delight of the rain-swept, wind-blown, surviving away supporters.

Summary
Wyke did the double over Brighouse with a dramatic last minute winner from Jack who had a great game in midfield. Bailey played well in goal before being un-leashed in midfield. Jarad was determined in defence. Danny made some important tackles and kept goal well in the second half. Nathan scored a fine goal before retreating to help out in defence. Matthew did well up front and scored a good goal. Ben did well at the back and Sam shone again with his reading of the game to set Wyke on the road to their first victory of the season.
