Score: 2-4 (HT 0-0)

Wyke Goals: Owen, Charlie

First Half
In a steady start, Connor was the first in action, making a fine save in goal. Wyke worked the ball to the other end and when it broke to Lewis, he tried his luck from distance with a volley that was well caught by the Brighouse keeper. Both sides cancelled each other out in a midfield tussle for the next few minutes before Connor sent a long kick up field to Charlie and he spun and shot first time but was unlucky to see the keeper make a good stop. Charlie then passed to Nathan and he shot at goal but the ball was deflected away for a corner. Nathan repaid the compliment to Charlie straight away and he creamed a shot toward goal but as it beat the keeper it came back off the left hand post to deny him his first goal of the season. Brighouse ended the first half on the attack with three successive corners that were all cleared by Owen and Connor united.

Second Half
Wyke began well and Owen shot toward goal, only to see the keeper make a good save again. Brighouse broke up field straight away and their star man created an opening on the edge of the penalty area and buried a shot in to the bottom left hand corner of the net to go one up. Wyke came back with Lewis playing Nathan in for a shooting opportunity that was saved again. Brighouse broke again and it was deja vu as the Brighouse playmaker converted another good opening he’d made for himself, leaving Connor helpless in goal when one-on-one. Wyke’s heads went down for a couple of minutes but they came again after drawing breath and Charlie had three successive chances in front of goal but sent each one wide. Then a moment of magic; Owen received the ball in the middle of the field and set off on a diagonal run towards the right side of the penalty area. He beat three opponents and just when it looked like he had run out of room he fired the ball in to the top left hand corner of the net to bring Wyke back in to it. However, the Wyke defence backed off and Brighouse stormed back with a quick fire double that effectively killed the game off. Wyke’s never say die attitude showed again though as they finished the stronger team. Lewis set up Charlie to shoot at goal but the keeper made a good save once more. Charlie then won the ball back and created another chance for himself that was again well saved. Brighouse countered but the ball ended up in Connor’s arms and his long kick was well controlled by Charlie and he shot just wide of the mark. Then came the moment everyone had thought would never come this season. Charlie scored! It was thanks to some tenacious tackling by Jack in midfield and when Charlie was presented with his millionth chance of the season (sorry, huge exaggeration) he drilled the ball in to the back of the net to break his long drought and make the score-line respectable if miss-leading.

Summary
A strong Wyke performance ended in defeat through to some sloppy defending in two brief spells of Brighouse second half pressure where they scored quick fire doubles. Owen scored the best goal of the game when he beat three opponents before firing in to the top corner of the net and Charlie scored his first goal of the season after much knocking on the door. Connor made some excellent saves and good clearances while Lewis stopped most of the visitor’s attacks and set up most of Wyke’s. Jack made some crucial tackles and linked up well while Nathan tried hard in his first promising step up to the A team.

Wyke Wanderers B v Brighouse D

Wyke B
Ben Boocock
Bailey Clarkson (captain)
Bailey Evans
Mason Evans
Daniel Gledhill
Jarad Muff

Score: 3-2 (HT 0-1)

Wyke Goals: Bailey C (2), Bailey E

First Half
Wyke had the first chance of the game when Bailey C shot on goal was well saved. Brighouse though scored first with a well-taken effort. Wyke responded well and Bailey C had a good run before passing to Danny who in turn passed to Mason and his shot was deflected wide for a corner. Bailey C went on another mazy run before shooting in to the arms of the keeper. At the other end Ben made a great save to thwart the visiting attack. Brighouse finished the half on top but Ben made a couple of good stops to keep them out again.

Second Half
Wyke came out of the blocks quick in the second half and were soon on the attack. Bailey C made a good break before shooting too close to the keeper. Next he played in Danny whose shot was deflected wide for a corner. Bailey C made another great break before finding the keeper on top of his game once more. Wyke got a break though when Mason was sandwich tackled by three opponents as the ball drifted harmlessly away from goal and the referee pointed to the spot. Bailey C stepped up and despatched the ball in to the back of the net with aplomb. Wyke dominated the nest passage of play and Danny played in Bailey C to score a magnificent second. Bailey E then found himself in on goal and shot in to the bottom left hand corner for a brilliant club debut goal. Brighouse came back strongly then and Ben had to make two fine saves to keep them at bay. Brighouse were then awarded a penalty as Jarad was adjudged to have caught the attackers foot before the ball in a clearance attempt. Ben though was on top form in goal and made a fantastic save. Brighouse continued to finish well however and scored a late goal to make the last couple of minutes tense but Wyke held out comfortably to gain the first home victory from either team this season under the encouraging and watchful eye of new coach, Dave.

Summary
Wyke produced a wonderful first home victory of the season in a great all round performance. Ben made some fantastic saves in goal, including one from a penalty. The Evans twins, Bailey and Mason made great debuts and Bailey was rewarded with a goal in his first game. Jarad made some fine cover tackles. Danny linked up well and found plenty of room in midfield. Bailey C was tremendous and his pace brought him two well-taken goals.
