Wyke Goals:

First Half
Wyke were first out of the blocks and forced a goal kick in their first move. The kick out fell kindly to Owen who shot the ball back to goal but too near to the keeper, who made a good save. Batley countered and forced a free kick on the edge of the area but Lewis and Owen cleared the ball between them. Owen found space again and shot at goal but a Batley defender threw himself in the ball’s flight path and blocked it out for a throw. Lewis threw the ball to Charlie S. who shot first time and forced the keeper in to a fine save. Batley tried their luck once more and a top corner bound shot was well saved by Connor. Batley tried again and Wyke scrambled the ball away for a corner. The corner kick went under the cross bar where Charlie B. headed it off the line and Connor dived on the loose ball. The following five minutes was a dogged midfield battle with both sides cancelling each other out and preventing any real goal threats. From a Lewis throw in, Charlie S forced a Wyke Corner but then could only fired his shot wide from the resulting corner kick. Lewis then produced the shot of the match when a Batley clearance fell to him just inside his own half and he hit it sweetly first time and the ball looked like it would fly in to the net but the visiting keeper pulled off a magnificent save. At the other end, Connor kept Wyke in the game with another great save before Wyke broke up field again and Charlie B. had a goal bound shot blocked. Connor made another fine save before watching the next speculative effort drift over the cross bar. It was still stalemate when the half time whistle sounded.

Second Half
Wyke began the second period well and soon forced a free kick on the left side of the penalty area. Owen fired in a great shot but it drifted in to the side netting. Batley counter-attacked and caught the Wyke defence napping with a well-worked goal. Ethan, who swapped with Connor in goal at half time, had little chance of stopping a thunderous shot. Wyke had another free kick within shooting distance and this time it was Charlie S. turn to fired just wide. Batley next attack saw a shot drift wide of the Wyke goal before Ethan made his first good save. Lewis then found himself with a shooting chance but fired wide of the goal. The Batley goal kick went straight to Owen who volleyed the ball first time at goal but it took a lucky deflection and went out for a corner. The corner went in to the danger area and Wyke scrambled to get in a clear shot at goal. Unfortunately though, Batley took possession and broke away to score their second goal. As Wyke looked stunned, Batley were spurred on and soon made it three after the re-start. Batley then shot wide before forcing a corner that was headed just wide again. Wyke gave it one last effort before the end but even though they pushed forward, couldn’t find a way through the strong Batley defence.

Summary
Wyke were stunned by some clinical break away goals after dominating much of the game. Connor was un-passable in goal before defending resolutely. Ethan was strong in defence before being un-lucky in goal. Lewis was impressive again with his reading of the game. Charlie B. played well but got a knock that restricted his game. Owen worked tirelessly in midfield. Charlie S. played well up front but couldn’t find the back of the net. Bailey played a good brief supportive role.

Wyke Goals:

First Half
Batley soon showed their intensions when Jack was called in to action to make the first of many saves in the opening seconds of the game. Wyke countered and good play from Matthew and Bailey created a chance for Nathan but his shot went wide. Jack saved well before luckily watching the left post save Wyke. The next Batley attack saw the ball drift over the cross bar. A Batley free kick was then well blocked by a strong Wyke wall before Jack smothered the follow up shot. Jack made another fine save before Batley finally broke through with a well-worked first goal. Jack made two more good saves before the next Batley shot rolled wide of goal. Jack’s goal kick was intercepted by a Batley forward who swooped the ball in to an empty net. Wyke had a brief attack from the re-start and Bailey had a nice effort saved. Wyke then had a throw on half way but indecision gifted Batley the ball and their interception created goal number three. Within a minute it was four and even Jack’s heroic saves were counting for nothing as he caught a long shot full in the face and then spilled the ball over the line for Batley’s fifth goal. Wyke didn’t lie down though. Good work from Nathan created a chance for Bailey but he shot too early and the ball trickled in to the arms of the visiting keeper. Jack made another good save before the break.

Second Half
Wyke began well and forced an early corner. Bailey took the corner kick and Nathan drove in a good shot that was well saved. Jack then tried his luck but again only found the keepers welcome arms. At the other end, Jack was in the action again when he made a timely block to see the ball away for a corner. The corner was swung high in to the danger area and Nathan parried the ball out but only to a Batley player who fired it straight back in to the net for the visitor’s sixth goal. Batley’s next attack from a throw in saw a header drift wide of the goal. Nathan then made a tremendous save before he was powerless to stop Batley’s seventh goal from an intercepted goal kick. Wyke players were again too slow to react to a short goal kick. Nathan was called in to action again shortly after but was soon picking the ball out of the back of the net for the eighth time after a swift Batley attack. Wyke finished the game the stronger as Batley relaxed. Danny played in Bailey whose cross / shot flew in to the side netting. Batley responded with a shot wide of the goal before forcing a corner that was well cleared by Jarad. Wyke then forced two corners of their own. A Bailey cross fell to Jack but his shot was sliced and went kindly to the keeper. Nathan made a great save before Matthew played in Jack who shot wide of the mark again. The final move of the game saw Batley attacking but Nathan saved well and Jarad cleared the ball away.

Summary
Wyke were over-run by a slick Batley team. Jack showed improvement and was unlucky at times. Jarad defended well. Sam made some timely tackles and showed good ball control. Nathan was involved in most chances. Bailey struggled to get in to the game and was well marked. Matthew did well with his few chances. Danny played well in his brief appearance.
