Match Report- 19/10/08 v Vision Juniors Empty Match Report- 19/10/08 v Vision Juniors

The Big Derby. Wyke v Vision had the promise of being a good tight game; however Vision ran our 4-1 winners, and Wyke were left on then end of a 3 game run without a win, and facing top of the league YMCA next week.

Wyke start was encouraging, with the new 5-3-2 tactic, Jake and Scott as Wing Backs, seemed to adapt to the positions well. Owen, Tai and Louis at the back also seemed to be playing well together at the back.

Things were looking good, and within 15 minutes, Wyke had had the better chances, and Michael up front was causing a couple of problems.
Vision came back into the game, and had a couple of chances, Joe Couble saved one, and the other was cleared off the line. The Wyke defence were getting bodies in front of the goal and Vision were struggling to break them down.

Wyke spent most of the 1st half, defending. The Wyke midfield were all over the place, and there was little going on in terms of a Wyke attack.
Vision eventually opened the scoring. James Dennison scoring a great Volley for Vision, after a defensive error.

However, Wyke responded within 5 minutes. Michael Brooksbank broke free and scored a belter of a goal, he hit it that hard it nearly went through the net. 1-1

Wyke were going into half time drawing, until a penalty was given against Wyke. The referee judged that a Vision player was fouled in the box. Not sure whether it was a penalty or not, but Vision scored it, meaning Wyke were trailing 2-1 at half time.

The second half showed no signs of getting any better for Wyke. Wyke only had a couple of chances. Whereas Vision had a lot of chances. Vision were well organised, and played some great diagonal balls, to beat Wyke’s offside trap.

Wyke let another 2 goals in. Tai and Owen, who played well in the first half, were struggling to cope at the back. Jake at right back, although he gave 100%, struggled to keep up James Dennison on the left wing, who was brilliant.

Wyke’s midfield fell to pieces in the second half. Dom Pickersgill tried to stay in the attack, and Joe McLoughlin was playing too defensive, meaning when Wyke cleared the ball there was nobody to get hold of it.

Final Score 2-1

Dave’s Comments

We played ok today, but that wasn’t good enough against Vision. We didn’t stick to positions, and that meant we couldn’t get the ball out of our half. We need to reorganise for YMCA, because they are a tough team, and will really punish us otherwise.

Man of the Match: I didn’t announce one at the end of the game, but after thinking about it, and talking with Andy, the Man of the Match is Jake Gilderdale. He had the hardest role at right wing back, against James Dennison for Vision, and put in 100% effort, it could have been a much larger score without him.

Scorers: Michael Brooksbank
