Wyke returned to PYF Juniors again, after playing the same fixture the week before in the cup. Wyke hadmanaged an 11-6 win, but now this was the league and Wyke needed togain another victory to keep up the heat on 1st placeNorthowram.

The Wanderers ran out 8-1 winners, giving a much convincing and strong performance, and getting a muchstronger result.

It was a nervy start to the game forboth teams. PYF Juniors came out very aggressively and put in a lotof strong tackles. Wyke's talent shone through and they had thebetter chances early on.

Scott Morris fired a shot over thebar, but after 7 minutes Wyke had their opening goal. Nathan Khanplayed a great pass down the right side, Jack Lamch broke down theright wing and crossed the ball from the byeline. It went to ConnorRhodes who was given far too much time on the ball, he turned andsmashed it past the keeper.

Only a couple of minutes later, PYF gotthemselves back into the game. It was a very sloppy goal to let in,with Wyke unable to clear the ball from their area. PYF were now backin the game with 10 minutes gone.

After PYF had put themselves back inthe game, they looked pretty good for the next ten minutes and Wykefound themselves having to work very hard to keep them at bay.

Wyke did manage to weather the storm, with some good defending from Tai Pedder and Jake Gilderdale. AlsoJoe McLoughlin was doing a great job of coming out and dealing withfour balls over the top. PYF just could'nt break down the Wanderers,Mudiwa and Louis stopped any attacks from the wings, and Damien andNathan were competing very well in the middle, and came back to helpout the defence.

After 23 minutes Wyke's strength at theback paid off, and they were rewarded when Mikey Brooksbank put in agreat tackle and got possession on the ball, he played a ball throughto Scott Morris on the left, PYF had been hit on the counter attackand Scott Morris burst down the left and cut in towards the goal. Heblasted the ball into the roof of the goal. What a fantastic goal, and it was possibly a turning point in the game.

5 minutes later Wyke scored anothergoal. Connor Rhodes played the ball into Scott Morris who turned andfired the ball with his right foot past the keeper. Great play fromScott, and Wyke now had a healthy 3-1 lead.

Wyke were now flying, and only a minuteafter Scott had put Wyke 3-1 up, Mudiwa fed the ball through toMikey. Mikey outmuscled the last defender and cracked the ball acrossthe keeper into the far corner. Wyke were now cruising.

Just before the whistle went, Wyke cameclose to slipping up, Tai mis-kicked a clearance, and the pacey PYFnumber 9 took advantage, but his shot was placed wide, although JoeMcLoughlin did well to come out and narrow the angle. Wyke were verylucky though.

Half Time- Wyke 4-1 PYF

Wyke came out strongly for the secondhalf. PYF battled hard in the middle of the pitch but Damien andNathan were far too strong.

The first 15 minutes of the half werefairly quiet. Wyke were defending very well, Tai and Jake wereputting in an outstanding partnership performance to keep the PYFstrikeforce at bay.

At the other end of the pitch Mikey andConnor were having a hard time trying to get past the big strongcentre backs who kept clearing the ball long into Wyke's half.

Wyke did start to become more lively,Scott Morris continued to be a threat, and he came close to extendingthe lead after 17 minutes, but only a minute later he played in agreat ball to Connor Rhodes, Connor had all the time in the world toscore and he placed the ball into the net past the helpless keeper.Wyke lead 5-1.

Moments later Jack Lamch collided witha PYF player in the box, and the referee pointed to the spot. The PYFplayed hit the post and then his second effort was fired over thebar. PYF were instantly made to pay for their miss. Wyke hit PYF onthe counter attack, with Damien Hields with acres of space, he playedthe ball out to Jack, Jack played it back and Damo made a pass the anunmarked Connor Rhodes, Connor had Scott to his left, but chose toshoot, cleverly curling the ball into the far corner. What a greatshot from Connor to give him his hatrick. PYF had started to fall topieces.

Wyke had loads of chances during thelast ten minutes. Mikey Brooksbank broke free and fired a shot wide, and Connor Rhodes and Scott Morris both had shots well saved. Nathanalso shot the ball over the bar.

With two minutes to go Wyke hit PYF onanother counter attack, this time Mikey Brooksbank played the ballthrough to Nathan Khan, Nathan was being held back unfairly but stillhad the strength and talent to get the ball and fire a brilliant shotinto the bottom corner.

Late on in the game Connor Rhodes brokedown the left and played an excellent cross into the middle, andthere was Scott to complete his first ever hatrick for the club.

Full Time Wyke 8-1 PYF

I was delightedwith the performance and the result today. We did well to scoreeight, and as usual our attacking players were a different class, butI was really pleased with how well the defence did. They all playedreally well, Mudiwa did well at right back, and Louis was solid atleft back, but Jake and Tai did very well today. There were a fewslip ups but Joe McLoughlin was on form, and it was an excellent teameffort. Great stuff boys, keep it up.
