After four successive league victories,Wyke were going into the League Cup first round full of confidence.Their opposition PYF were also in the same division as Wyke, but weremuch lower down in the table.

Wyke secured their place in the secondround, with a strong 11-6 victory. As with a lot of the Wanderers'games, there were goals flying about everywhere, but Wyke had a muchgreater share of them.

Wyke started off the stronger side, andafter only eight minutes, Wyke had a two goal lead. The first goalwas a through ball from Connor Rhodes which was latched onto byMichael Brooksbank, Mikey used his pace to burn off the last defenderand fire past a helpless keeper. The second came moments later,Connor played in Nathan Khan who's close range shot was blocked bythe keeper, it deflected into the path of Connor Rhodes who played afirst time pass to Nathan Khan who this time burried the ball pastthe keeper.

The Wanderers continued to look strongand constantly threatened to extend their lead, but every time PYFattacked they caused the Wyke defence problems. PYF got themselvesback in the game after 16 minutes, with the PYF striker pacing outJake and Tai to get onto the ball and finish it past Joe McLoughlin.

Wyke's domination then paid off towardsthe back end of the first half. After 25 minutes Mikey fed a verygood ball through to Connor Rhodes, Connor knocked the ball wide pastthe keeper and slotted it into an open net. A minute later Connor wasinvolved in setting up Abel Mariwandi, Abel charged towards goal, andmis-hit a first shot, but he got a second attempt and put it past thekeeper. Wyke now led 4-1.

PYF thought they had got back into thegame, when they were awarded a penalty for Tai Pedder handling in thebox, they scored making it 4-2, but moments later Nathan Khan playeda brilliant ball through to Mikey, who one on one, fired the ballhome. Wyke had a 5-2 lead going into half time.

Half Time

Wyke had another good start to thehalf, this time Connor Rhodes popped the ball through, and Jack Lamchmanaged to beat the keeper to the ball and find the back of the net.Wyke 6-2.

The Wanderers continued to attack, andit wasnt long before they scored again. A scuffle and a spill fromthe goalkeeper fell to Damien Hields, and he took it, giving him awell deserved first goal for the club. Wyke were flying now at 7-2.

Things only got better for Wyke, asthey took a brilliant 8-2 lead. When Nathan was brought down aroundthe halfway circle, Tai smashed a long freekick forwards, Mikey beatthe PYF offside trap and ran on, scoring another goal to give him ahatrick.

The last ten minutes gave the game abizarre ending. The midfield had now decided to push forwards in anattempt to get more goals. This left the Wanderers vastly outnumberedat times, and PYF took their chances, scoring four goals. Another onewas from a penalty.

However Wyke were too strong, and therewere three more goals to come from them during the remaining minutes.Wyke were given a penalty, and Mikey Brooksbank stepped up and struckthe ball into the bottom corner. A great Penalty! Next Mikey ranthrough on goal and crossed to Scott Morris, who found his first goalof the game, and finally Scott set up Nathan who cut inside andblasted the ball into the roof of the net.

Goals

MichaelBrooksbank, (7, 31, 58, 65) Nathan Khan (8, 70), Connor Rhodes (25)Abel (26), Jack (41), Damien (55), Scott (67).

Man of the Match

Michael Brooksbank: Mikeywas outstanding today. He is really showing his form at the moment, collecting his third MOM in a row. Mikey scored an incredible fourgoals today, and also got two assists. He really showed the PYFdefence a trick or two today and they simply couldnt handle him. Alsohe did very well to come back and put in some key tackles when Wykewere defending.

A good resultlads! Well done!!! I know towards the end we switched off a bit, butI'm not too concerned about that, I know that when you are winning bya lot of goals its easy to take our foot off the pedal. Hopefully wecan do the same against them next week (but hopefully not let as manygoals in). When we have the ball we look so dangerous, but we need towork on how we play off the ball, and also work on our communication. But on the whole a great result and we are now through to Round 2 ofthe Cup.
