Get in Liverpool!!

Anyway Back to Wyke….

It was the first meeting of the two sides this season,
although Wyke had enjoyed two comfortable victories last season over the hard
working Savile Town. Savile were in excellent form coming into the fixture with
7 wins from 8 games, and a victory could have put them in pole-position to win
the league. Wyke’s form was improving again, after a 10-7 victory last week
against high-flying Batley Phoenix.

Wyke managed to win the game 8-5, another high scoring game
with twists and turns, but more importantly for Wyke it means 11 games and an
amazing 6 months unbeaten in the league, it also means Wyke’s 100% home win
record continues, as they continue to battle for the title.

It was a slow start for both teams, most of the play was
focused around the middle of the park, with both teams trying to play proper
football.

It was Wyke who broke the deadlock after about 12 minutes, the
Savile last defender was caught in possession by Connor Rhodes, who took the
ball and broke through, one on one with the keeper, and you know Connor was
only going to do one thing… score! A great finish from Wyke’s massively in form
striker.

It only took Wyke 2 minutes to add to their tally. Scott
Morris and Connor Rhodes played some excellent 1-2 football together, and Scott
Morris crossed a beautiful ball in, Michael Brooksbank went diving foot first
for it, and did brilliantly to nudge it past the keeper into the back of the
net, Wyke were flying, now leading 2-0.

Another two minutes passed, and another goal for Wyke
Wanderers. Damien Hields showed incredible strength to win a ball in the
middle, and he sprayed the ball down the left flank. Scott Morris broke free
and bearing down on the keeper somehow managed to squeeze the ball into the
near post. A great goal from Scott, from a very tight angle.

With 19 minutes gone, only moments after Wyke took a 3-0
lead, they made it 4-0. Savile were unable to cope with the onslaught, and Wyke
continued to punish them, this time Mikey Brooksbank was the provider playing a
top class ball through to Connor Rhodes, Connor once again one-on-one easily
slid the ball past the keeper for his second and Wyke’s 4th of the
game.

Wyke had a few more chances to increase their lead further,
but didn’t put them away, Scott had a chance, as did Michael who shot wide.
However their best chance came from a brilliant ball from Mudiwa, to Connor who
one-one-one had his shot well saved by the keeper.

Wyke had totally dominated the half, but just before half
time Savile managed to claw a goal back, a ball over top wasn’t dealt with, and
it was a well taken goal.

Half Time- Wyke 4-1

Wyke had a terrible start to the second half, much like the
last couple of games, they were in freefall after letting a goal in. It took
Savile only 7 minutes to get a goal, Wyke looked lazy and some of them couldn’t
be bothered.

Wyke had stopped winning the ball, and every time they had
possession they kept giving it away, at the back the defence seemed to have
lost all its confidence. Savile scored again moments later, making the game
4-3, a great shot from a freekick.

It wasn’t over for Wyke as Savile continued with the
pressure, and they were rewarded with an equaliser. Once again the Wanderers
had gone through a spell of letting in goals.

Michael Brooksbank came into the defence, and sure enough the
team steadied, as soon as Savile had made the score 4-4 after about 10 minutes
gone, Wyke somehow found their groove again and started to return to their quality
level of football.

In a massive twist in the game, Wyke somehow managed to
score 3 goals in 5 minutes to restore a healthy lead.

Firstly Michael
Brooksbank had all the time in the world to spray a ball over the top to Scott
Morris who broke through and scored to give Wyke a massive massive goal.

Only a minute later Connor once again leapt on the last
defender who was caught in possession, Connor showed his class by easily
dispossessing him and then slotting the ball past the keeper, for a hatrick.
Amazingly his 8th hatrick of the season.

Not content with 2 in 3 minutes, Michael Brooksbank pulled
out a superb shot from 30 yards, blasting it into the top corner.A great goal
to give Wyke a restored and healthy 3 goal lead, the score was now 8-5.

Wyke continued to look good. Damien Hields battled
fantastically, as did his central partner Nathan Khan. It was a real battle of
the lads in the middle and a physically hard game but they continued to battle,
as Wyke took control of the game.

Savile created a few chances later on, but Mikey was
fantastic at the back, and they were not strong enough to get anywhere near the
goal. Tai Pedder was also having a great game, he put in a few top class slide
tackles early on, and carried on in the second half exactly the same, working
well with Mikey to stop any Savile comebacks.

With 10 minutes to go, Wyke got an eighth, Joe McLoughlin
did well to clear a ball to Scott Morris, Scott broke down the wing yet again,
and played in a clever cross to Damien Hields for a close range finish, which
he took very

well. Wyke 8-4

Savile did manage to pull back a goal, Calvin Barker spilled
into his own net, but up to that point he had had a very good game, and luckily
Wyke had already pretty much secured a victory with only five minutes to go.

Full Time- Wyke 8-5 Savile Town

Goalscorers

Connor Rhodes (12, 19, 26), Michael Brooksbank (14, 49),
Scott Morris (16, 45), Damien Hields (61)

Man of the Match: Scott Morris- Scott was very good
today. He scored two goals, set up two balls and his link up play with Connor
and Michael was brilliant. He was a constant threat to the Savile defence and
an important player for the Wanderers today.

Dave’s Comments

I thought for most of the game we were excellent today. In
the first half our football was brilliant, but we need to try and keep that
going all the time. We will go through some stages where our opposition will
apply a lot of pressure, but we need to learn how to focus when we let a goal
in, and contain and counter attack. This could have been a slip up today, but
we did manage to regain our composure and play well even though we had thrown
away a 4 goal lead. But let’s look at the positives, we have beaten one of the best
teams in the league by 3 goals, they have only been beaten once this season,
and we have hammered 8 goals past the best defence in the league (by far). So
well done boys.. Unbeaten in the league in six months, and a 100% win record at
home is brilliant.. Keep it up J
