Match Report- 01/05/2011 v Savile Town (Away) Empty Match Report- 01/05/2011 v Savile Town (Away)

It was finally crunch time for Wyke Wanderers, a victory
would see them go top, a defeat leaving their title hopes in shatters. Savile
Town were also massive title contenders, and would certainly up for getting
revenge after being defeated 8-5 earlier in the season.

It wasn’t to be Wyke’s day, as Savile managed to get a 3-1
win, putting them top of the league. Wyke’s Title dreams are now over, and
there chances of promotion are very slim.

Oddly enough Wyke started off well, and after only 5 minutes
Abel Mariwandi lifted the team’s spirits with a great finish from a mistimed
header from the Savile defence.

However only a minute later, Joe McLoughlin had a howler,
and mis-kicked a clearance from goal, which went under his leg and into the
back of the net. 1-1

Savile started to get on top of the game, they were definitely
more up for it than the Wanderers, winning every ball in the middle.

Wyke weren’t helped by only having 11 men, and with Mudiwa
missing from the middle.

However Savile continued to attack, and came close to taking
the lead in the first half, again first to every ball. Wyke created very little
attack in the first half and were lucky to go in to half time at 1-1.

The second half saw a total collapse of Wyke’s game plan.
The midfield became non-existant, as Savile just paraded around with the ball.
The Wyke defence had a very tough job, as the ball just kept coming back every
time it was cleared.

Savile should have took the lead, but they narrowly missed,
and then hit the post. It took them 8 minutes to get the eventual lead, Nathan
Khan’s mis-clearance slide into his own net. In truth, a Savile goal was on the
cards in some way, shape or form.

Savile’s third came from a corner, Joe McLoughlin spilled in
his own net, from a corner. By this point Wyke Wanderers had given up. There
was no confidence, and Savile were cruising to a victory.

Wyke did create couple of chances later on, almost scoring,
but the Savile Keeper somehow clawed the ball off the line, but in truth the
Wanderers were way off form once again. Joe McLoughlin did make a couple of
good saves in the game, but it was too late. Wyke were beaten fair and square
by a team with much more desire.

Full Time- Wyke 1-3 Savile Town.

Goals

Abel Mariwandi (5)

Man of the Match: Calvin Barker- Calvin played very
well at right back today, especially considering it was his first game out of
goals. He put in some key tackles, was very strong an kept going until the end.

Manager Comments

It was so stressful to watch the game today, because we just
didn’t look like we wanted to win! We have thrown away the league because some
of us just gave up! Like I said at the match, We are the best team in the
league, but we don’t show it cos we have one of the worst attitudes.. We need
to be more positive and have a better team spirit!! But lets keep our chins up
and stay positive.. Im sure if we still together and get a couple of new
players in, this time next year we will be champions!!
