Wyke 4-1 Silkstone.

Wyke put in a fantastic performance to seal their first win of the season, and although the
score of 4-1 seems like an easy win, it doesn’t tell the full story of the
match.

Wyke didn’t start the game very well. Silkstone were playing very good football and Wyke
didn’t handle it very well. At the back, Wyke weren’t clearing the ball and the
midfield took a long time to settle. Silkstone took the lead, and really they
deserved to be in front after 10 minutes.

Silkstone continued to dominate the game, and were very unlucky not to go 2-0 up, which
could have changed the course of the game.

After 15 minutes, Wyke started to settle into the match, and play with more confidence.
Connor Rhodes looked dangerous every time he got the ball, and made some great
attacking play. Jake Gilderdale on the right held the ball up well, and made
some good attacking moves down the right wing, Wyke suddenly started to look
like the stronger team. Jack Lamch hit the crossbar, and was very unlucky not
to level things up.

Eventually Wyke pulled the score back level, a brilliantly struck corner from Jack Lamch,
was headed onto the crossbar by Connor Rhodes, and Nathan Khan was there to
knock the ball home. 1-1

At half time, Wyke were starting to get into the game, even though Silkstone could have
had a healthy lead. Wyke were lucky to be drawing.

The second half saw a much improved performance from the team. Nathan Khan and Dominic
Pickersgill had a much better control of the game in the middle of the pitch.
Nathan had massive job in the middle of the pitch, and he didn’t stop running
all game. A fantastic performance from the captain, who made sure every ball in
the middle was won, and he played some great balls through to the attackers.

Connor Rhodes gave Wyke an early lead, breaking through the middle and smashing the
ball into the back of the net. Connor was really striking fear into the
Silkstone defence with his strength and speed.

Wyke continued to have most of the action. Tai Pedder, Owen Hanson, Louis Muff and
Matty Dignam were coping very well at the back, and were making it look easy. They
challenged every ball at the back, and kept winning, and getting the ball
pumped up the pitch. The Midfield were coming back and picking up loose balls,
which meant Wyke kept all the possession.

Connor Rhodes showed his massive talent, by breaking through again, down the left and
scored a great goal from a narrow angle. The Silkstone keeper had a steady
game, and Connor did very well to score from a tight angle.

Wyke continued to attack, Jack Lamch put in a good effort, and was unlucky not to
score, also Nathan could have had another goal. The two best chances fell to
Matteuz Ogrodnik on his league debut. Unfortunately he couldn’t put them in the
back of the net, both set up by Connor Rhodes. However Matteusz eventually
scored to give Wyke the 3 point, casually putting it past the keeper.

A fantastic
2nd half performance.

Scorers:

Connor
Rhodes x2, Nathan Khan, Matteusz Ogrodnik.

Man of
the Match

MattyDignam: Matty was close to getting the man of the match last game, and today put in another great performance, he was strong a left back and didn’t let anybody get past him, he
also didn’t panic on the ball and made some great attacking plays from his
clearances.

Best Performance for a long time. Although we took a while to get into the game, our
2nd half performance was amazing. Every player did brilliantly!! It
was a hard game and we kept battling and that is what won the game for us. You
all took on board what was said at half-time, and we played some great
football. Awesome boys well done.....
