Wyke Wanderers Under 12’s continued their winning run, with
a fantastic result against a Silkstone side who had managed to beat 2nd
in the table the previous week. It was Wyke’s second game of the season against
Silkstone, with Wyke coming away with three points and their first win of the
season back in September with a 4-1 win, however the score doesn’t tell the
whole story of the game, in which Wyke found themselves up against a strong
opposition, and a tight game with Wyke taking their chances.

The game started off very fast paced, with Wyke creating
some good attacking moves, especially from
Scott Morris and Jake Gilderdale down each wing. Wyke were playing some
good attacking football, and Silkstone were lucky to not concede.

At the other end, Tai Pedder was having a great game, and
was winning everything in the air, with Matty Dignam and Joe McLoughlin using
their pace to make sure they picked up any balls over the top.

After 10 minutes of constant pressure, Wyke finally got the
breakthrough they needed, when Scott Morris showed his brilliant skill by
beating two defenders and whipping a perfect cross into the box, and Jake
Gilderdale was there to nod the ball into the back of the net.

Wyke continued to attack, and were by far the strongest
team, and with Mikey Brooksbank coming off the bench after 15 minutes, the
attacking power was strengthened even further. Scott Morris played a ball over
the top, and Mikey latched onto it, and played a beautiful chip over the keeper
to bag his first goal of the game, and Wyke’s second.

Minutes later, Jake Gilderdale’s fine form continued, as he
shot down the right wing with the ball, cut inside and smashed the ball,
however it came off the bar and fell into path of Mikey Brooksbank who had the
simple task of tapping the ball in the net for his second of the afternoon.
Wyke now led 3-0.

With 5 minutes to go in the first half, Wyke switched off,
and Silkstone broke through and scored, from a poorly cleared throughball,
giving Silkstone a glimmer of hope. That glimmer became much brighter, when
they converted a well struck corner, to make the game 3-2. Wyke now had to
focus if they wanted to win the game, as confidence would now be very high
amongst the Silkstone players.

Half Time- Wyke 3-2 Silkstone

Wyke were again the stronger side throughout the second
half. They dominated the play. Nathan Khan
was fantastic in the middle, and Wyke pretty much won every ball because
of him. Another great Captain’s performance from him, as much of the attacking
play was also started by his fantastic passing. Also Dom Pickersgill was strong
into the tackles in the middle, and there was no way Wyke were going to drop
points.

After 9 minutes, Mikey Brooksbank scored again, to seal his
hatrick, and give Wyke a well needed and well deserved two goal cushion.

Wyke’s attacking continued, with Connor Rhodes putting in a
brilliant performance, and linking up fantastically with Scott Morris. Scott
was such an important player for the team today, with his flair and dribbling
capabilities.

The game was put to bed by Quinn Riley, who broke down the
left and his strength got the better of the last defender, and he hit the ball
hard enough for the Keeper to only be able to parry the ball into his own net.
A great goal from Quinn, who a minute earlier had found the net, but had had it
disallowed for offside.

Defensively, Wyke were perfect in the second half, Tai
Pedder was brilliant, and won every ball in the air. Again the full backs were
solid, with Matty tracking back and
stropping any one on one situations with his sheer pace. Louis also put in a strong performance and a
few key headers.

Full Time- Wyke 5-2 Silkstone
Goals: Mikey Brooksbank x3, Jake Gilderdale, Quinn Riley.

Man of the Match: Jake Gilderdale: Jake was fantastic
down the right wing today, with some brilliant runs down the flanks. For a
small lad, he proved he was a very strong player, and put in some good crosses,
he scored on his head to give Wyke the lead, and also set up the second.
Although he was taken off injured, his performance was key to Wyke’s victory
today.

Man of the Match: Scott Morris: Scott is developing
very rapidly into a brilliant footballer, he is strong and tenacious into the
tackle, and also has fantastic flair and ball control. Scott is so important to
every attacking play Wyke create, whether he is on the wing, or in the centre.
Today he put in some fantastic crosses, and set up Jake Gilderdale for the
first goal. He is also showing what a team player is, linking up very well with
Connor Rhodes, Mikey Brooksbank and Nathan Khan.

What a performance boys!!! I’m so pleased today, because I
can see us developing as a team. We are playing some clever and attractive
football, especially in the opponent’s box. Its brilliant to see the amount of
players who can play some excellent football down the wing as well. Also well
done for keeping it together in the second half, because after letting two
goals in at the end of the first half, we could have let our heads go down, and
mess it up. But we didn’t, it was a positive performance from all of us... Well
done lads...great performance and great result from everyone!
