Wyke A suffered a heavy loss in their first game of 2009 but gained valuable experience against a much stronger side.
Connor Barran was outstanding in goal, making seven great saves to keep the score down to 4-0 at half time and then chased hard in defence for the second period. Charlie Smith was dynamic in defence and looked dangerous when advancing up field before reverting to goal in the second half where he made three excellent saves. Lewis Evans was everywhere, competing tenaciously and had one shot, which was well saved. Matthew Brumfitt worked hard in attack while Ethan Downey played a strong game and was rewarded with a late consolation goal from one of his two shots on goal.

Wyke B also faced a more experienced Honley but did manage to score three well-taken goals.
Jarad Muff kept goal in the first half making three fine stops to keep the score down to 4-0 at half-time and then went up front in the second half to score a great goal from his one and only shot. Nathan Aylott battled well in the first period before reverting to goal for the second half, making four super stops. Adam Kirby and Sam Preston worked hard in defence throughout the game to prevent the strong Honley attack from scoring more. Bailey Clarkson (MoM) was an ever-present threat up front scoring a magnificent goal from his six shots and he also caused a Honley player to score an own goal at the end with a long throw in to the penalty box.
