Rastrick U7s v Wyke U7s

Wyke Under 7’s played their first away game of the season at Rastrick on Sunday. Only seven players were available so they had to be rotated in the A and B team matches, where honours were shared.

Team:
Connor Barran
Bailey Clarkson
Ethan Downey
Lewis Evans
Jarad Muff
Sam Preston
Charlie Smith

Rastrick A U7s 11 v 2 Wyke U7s (Clarkson, Smith)

Wyke were soon on the back-foot but competed well against an experienced Rastrick team. The home side were two goals up early in the game but Wyke rallied and with their first real chance got a goal back. Evans played a great pass to Clarkson who ran on and scored a super goal. Wyke didn’t get near the Rastrick goal again before half time and trailed 1-6 at the break.

Rastrick scored their seventh early in the second half but Wyke created many chances when they came more in to the game. Smith passed to Clarkson who’s shot was saved before Rastrick countered for their eighth. Smith then passed to Clarkson and his cross was put behind for a corner. Rastrick broke out again though to score their ninth. Smith raced clear from the re-start and was very unlucky to see his ace shot come back off the post. Rastrick then made it ten but Smith immediately broke through again to score an excellent solo goal. Rastrick got their eleventh and last goal before Barran’s long goal kick was flicked on by Smith to Clarkson who shot wide. Clarkson then had another shot well saved before the final whistle. Downey won many tackles in the middle while Preston and Muff worked tirelessly to the end.

Rastrick B U7s 1 v 2 Wyke U7s (Smith 2)

Having now warmed up in the first game, Wyke fared much better against the Rastrick B team. Rastrick nearly took an early lead but Muff made an excellent save and Barran cleared off the line. Muff made another superb stop but was powerless to keep out the Rastrick attack that opened the scoring half way through the first half. There was no more goal action before half time as both teams battled hard in midfield.

Wyke were level in the first minute of the second half when Evans fed on a long kick out from Barran to Smith who raced away to shoot in off the unlucky keeper. Smith then had another run and shot which was well saved but he scored his second and Wyke’s winner in the last minute when he again raced clear of the Rastrick defence to power home an unstoppable shot.

Barran made some fine stops and long kicks. Downey linked up well with Preston and Clarkson in the middle while Muff made some great tackles at the back. A good all round effort from each of the boys who continue to learn and improve.
