Summary
By far Wyke’s best performance of the season so far. Passing, movement, control, tackling, shooting and teamwork were all at a premium. Too bad they came up against the best team in the league, but Kirkburton knew they had been in a game. The commitment of all the players was unbelievable on a large sloping pitch that began to deteriorate under intense high wind and driving rain. Jack struggled under the conditions but still made some good saves. Travis was immense at the back and Jared was like a little terrier at the opposition’s heals. Thomas made some great runs but often ran in to trouble instead of taking the easier passing option. Owen worked tirelessly and was a threat every time he got the ball. His two fine finishes assured he stays top scorer in the team. Charlie was carrying a previous knock but didn’t let that stop him from playing a great game, as he was involved in most of Wyke’s attacks. Cameron was strong going forward and scored a fine goal. Too many times though, he also ran in to trouble rather than pass to a teammate. Connor played a great game from the bench, linking up well with the attackers but too often found himself having to track back to help Travis on his own at the back. Despite the learning errors, Wyke pushed all out for the goals and were rewarded with three brilliant efforts against a team that had only conceded five in their last eight games. Fantastic performance from the lads and it’s only to be expected that a good team will counter as well as they did. cheers
