The Wanderers needed to pick themselves back up after
suffering their first defeat in ten games, yesterday. It had been a poor result
against a team which Wyke would have liked to beat.

However this fixture would be very different, with today’s
opposition sitting at the foot of the table, without a win since September.

Wyke returned to winning ways, cruising to a 5-0 win.

The Wanderers started off very strongly, Mikey Brooksbank
had a shot well saved, and then Connor Rhodes hit the post.

Minutes later, Quinn rounded the keeper and had his shot
saved off the line.

Wyke had another couple of chances well saved, firstly Mikey
had a shot saved, and then the Kirkheaton Keeper acrobatically saved a shot
from Scott Morris.

Wyke had totally dominated the opening ten minutes, and had
it not have been for great goalkeeping, they would be 5 or 6 goals up.

After a 13 minute barrage, Wyke did end up taking the lead.
Connor Rhodes crossed the ball out wide to Mikey who’s first touch fell nicely
for Quinn Riley who scored from close range.

Wyke continued to attack, but they couldn’t get the ball in
the back of the net, the Kirkheaton Keeper was having a great game.

Wyke’s dominance was only possible because of some quality
defending. Jake Gilderdale returned in centre defence, after a great game
against Barugh. He won every ball, and was hard into every tackle. Joe
McLoughlin was also having a very good game, it looks like we might have a new
defensive partnership!!

Wyke doubled their lead shortly before half time, Connor
Rhodes broke down the left and fired the ball over the keeper from 25 yards. It
was a perfectly placed shot.

Wyke were leading, and although they deserved to be more
than 2-0 up, it was still a very strong performance.

Half Time 2-0.

Wyke started the second as strongly as they ended the first,
with plenty of shots. The Kirkheaton goalkeeper was once again the star man
making no less than 15 good saves in the second half.

Wyke remained strong at the back, and Kirkheaton got nowhere
near Joe Couble’s goals. Joe did have to make one save early on, but his back
four were making sure he was well protected.

After six minutes, Wyke took a 3-0 lead from a Jack Lamch
corner which wasn’t cleared. Scott Morris was on the end of it to bury it into
the back of the net.

Wyke’s next goal was a beauty. Nathan played to ball out to
Jack who played it first touch to Connor who again pinged it first time to
Mikey Brooksbank. Mikey hadn’t had much look today with beating the Kirkheaton
keeper, but he buried this one in the bottom corner, leaving the Kirkheaton
keeper with no chance.

Two minutes later the dynamic duo of Mikey and Connor gave
Wyke their 5th and final goal. Mikey slotted the ball through to
Connor who whacked it into the top corner, another great finish from him today.

Wyke continued to attack for the last 15 minutes but the
Kirkheaton keeper kept pulling off some unbelievable saves.

Wyke might have won 5-0 but in reality it could have been 3
times more if the keeper hadn’t been so good.

It was a great team performance, with all players putting in
a great performance. The defence had put in a Stirling effort today.

Goals

Scott Morris, Connor Rhodes x2, Mikey Brooksbank Quinn
Riley.

Man of the Match: Jake Gilderdale. It was Jake’s best
performance of the season. In fact it was one of the best defensive
performances from anybody this season. Jake was so natural, and for a small
lad, he won every ball in the air. He was the first to every ball, and
Kirkheaton barely had a sniff on goal. He played well with Joe Mac as well.

We were excellent today. I was really pleased by how we
defended. Because we were good at the back, it meant we had loads of the ball,
and loads of chances. Yeh it would have been
nice for us to score a few more, but their keeper was quality today. And
5-0 is still a great win! And well done for coming back after losing yesterday
with a great attitude!!
