After a few difficult matches in recent weeks, Wyke Wanderers were looking forward to testing their abilities against a team lower down in the table. Dalton Dynamoes had been having a tought time in the league this season and Wyke were buoyed by their recent win against rivals Batley last week.

Wyke Wanderers cruised to a massive 10-2 victory against Dalton, recording Wyke’s biggest ever win and a performance to be very proud of.

It was a lively start from the Wanderers, creating a couple of chances, Connor Rhodes had a shot, which was spilled by the Keeper and Quinn Riley shot it just wide.

Quinn Riley, moments later, thread a brilliant ball through to Mikey Brooksbank, who was through on goal, and he did what he does best, scoring by placing the ball into the bottom corner of the goal. Wyke were leading 1-0 after only four mintues.

Although Wyke had the lead, Dalton Dynamoes battled hard, and for the next ten minutes, they were the stronger team, leaving Wyke holding onto their slender lead. The Wyke defence couldn’t get rid of the ball, and it kept coming back.

Wyke were eventually punished for their lack of control of the game, when a long range effort bounced over Joe Couble giving the home team a well earned equaliser.

Dalton Dynamoes were now playing with much more confidence, and the Wyke defence were putting in some good tackles to stop them going a goal down. Tai Pedder and Dom Pickersgill did well to keep the Dalton strikeforce from getting near the goal.

Dalton could have taken the lead, but after rounding the Keeper, the Dalton midfielder put the ball wide of the net.

With 5 minutes to go before half time, out of the blue, Skipper Nathan Khan restored Wyke’s lead after breaking through the defence and smashing the ball into the bottom corner, a great and well needed goal from the captain who once against had been working very hard in the middle of a very big pitch.

Wyke extended their lead when Mikey Brooksbank made another through run of sheer brilliance, and he rounded the keeper. The Keeper saved the shot but the ball returned to Mikey who made a simple pass to Jack Lamch, who easily knocked the ball into the back of the net. Wyke were now leading 3-1.

Just before the half time whistle, Dalton were cruelly punished by the Wanderers, when a Jake Gilderdale cross was knocked into the back of the net by a Dalton Defender.

Wyke had a 4-1 lead going into the second half, and to be honest for much of the game Dalton had been the stronger team. However Wyke had done well to take their chances and Dalton heads were now starting to go down.

Wyke started the second half very positively, and when Connor broke down the left and put in a top class cross, Quinn Riley was there to bag another goal meaning the Wanderers now had a 5-1 lead.

With 10 minutes gone in the second half, Connor Rhodes made it 6-1 after a poor goalkick went straight to him, and Connor buried the ball into the bottom corner. Connor was having a great game today and deserved a goal.

Wyke were now settled at the back, with Jake Gilderdale moving into centre back position. Louis also had a steady game at left back, and Tai and Dom had played very well in the middle.

Kevin Fajfer was having a brilliant debut aswell, especially after moving into the centre of midfield.

Mikey Brooksbank was once again the star man, when he took the ball past four players and buried the ball into the bottom corner, the keeper had no chance, and Mikey had created a goal out of nothing. A fantastic individual effort. Wyke now led 7-1.

Kevin’s mazy run past three players almost gave Wyke an 8th, but his shot was well saved by the keeper.

Scott, Nathan and Kevin were looking good in the middle, and there were a lot of attacking forward runs from them, it meant that they could create more chances and ultimately more goals.

With 10 minutes left a cross from Mikey Brooksbank gave Wyke their 8-1 lead. Quinn Riley challenged the keeper in the air and he spilled it leaving Quinn an easy tap in for his second goal of the game.

Everything was working out perfectly for Wyke, and it showed when centre defender Tai Pedder leathered a volley from the edge of the area, it flew into the bottom corner of the net, what a goal, definitely the goal of the match. 9-1 Wyke.

Connor gave Wyke the double figure goals they wanted when he broke down the left wing rounding the last defender and placed the ball well into the net, a cool finish to earn him his second of the game.

A defensive slip up at the end of the game gave Dalton a second goal, but the game was well beyond doubt and it did nothing to dampen the spirit of the Wyke Wanderers boys who were celebrating a very memorable win.

Goals

Nathan Khan, Jack Lamch, Mikey x2, Connor x2, Quinn x2, Own Goal.

Man of the Match

Mikey Brooksbank: Mikey was such an important player today, he caused so many problems for the Dalton Defense. He is a great footballer and really showed it today, he created and scored his own two goals and assisted three other goals, and was a key man in the attack for Wyke today.

Connor Rhodes: Mikey’s striker partner today also put in a brilliant performance today, Connor is great not just because he can score goals, but also because he creates chances for his team mates with brilliant crosses, and he links up so well with teammates.

Manager Comments

Wehey!! Happy days guys.. (Even though Liverpool lost L) Fantastic performance today boys, we didn’t have the best start, but the second half was perfection, and you should be really proud of yourselves today. Our attacking players were fantastic and it was good to see our defensive players getting involved in creating attacking opportunities. Lets keep it up because we have now got other teams quaking in their boots in fear about playing us now...and that’s always a good thing...
