Match Report- 05/09/2010 v Barugh B (Away) Empty Match Report- 05/09/2010 v Barugh B (Away)

With the start of the new season only a week away, Wyke encountered Barugh ‘B’ in their final pre-season friendly of the season.

In what should have been a routine match, with Wyke favourites to win, Barugh B pulled a shocker out of the bag, defeating Wyke 6-2.

The game started off very quietly, with very little in the way of chances within the first 15 minutes of the game. Both defences looked solid, and neither keeper was tested. Both teams tried to play good football in the middle of the park, but it was a compact pitch, and Wyke couldn’t keep hold of possession for long.

The best chance for Wyke came from a great mazy run from Scott Morris on the left who crossed in a ball for Joe McLoughlin who headed it into the keepers arms.

Mikey Brooksbank couldn’t seem to keep hold of the ball, and had a couple of chances go wide.

After 21 minutes, the defence was split open, as Barugh took the opportunity from a poor clearance, a one-on-one effort gave them the lead.

After the goal, Wyke started to crumble, as Barugh got forward much more. The Wyke defence were having serious issues clearing their lines, and the Wyke midfield were playing far too forward meaning the Barugh midfield won every ball and it was backs against the wall for the Wanderers.

Half Time- Barugh 1-0.

The second half saw the Wyke team performance drop. The defence were not organised, and Barugh created many opportunities including a lot down Wyke’s left flank.

The goals came thick and fast for Barugh, and before long Wyke found themselves unbelievably 5-0 down. Certainly not an expected scoreline after a reasonable first half effort.

Wyke’s midfield had a lot of work to do, as behind them the defence were not dealing with the long ball, and in front of them, Mikey Brooksbank and Jack Lamch were not holding the ball up.

Wyke did create a few chances towards the end of the match. Nathan Khan and Scott Morris worked hard throughout the match, and were important in creating the two chances. Tai Pedder scored his first of what would be two goals, taking the opportunity of a poorly cleared ball, to fire the ball into the roof of the net. His second was easier, after Nathan did well to turn a defender and get a shot in which the keeper parried, and it fell to Tai on the follow up.

Barugh scored again late on, it was a disappointing day for the team, and hopefully it won’t affect their confidence as they start their league season.

Goals

Tai Pedder x2

MOM

MOM1: Scott Morris, Scott worked very hard today, and didn’t give up, it was a hard game for the midfield today and Scott gave it his all, and created some good chances on the left.

MOM2: Nathan Khan: The Skipper gave a lot of effort. He is capable of much much more, but as with Scott, it was a hard game for the midfielders and Nathan continued working hard until the end.

Manager Comments

Lets put this game behind us. We did miss key players who were out injured, which unbalanced the team a little. However once again we let ourselves be beaten, because as soon as they got that second goal our heads went down. We need to keep positive!! We are a good team, and we have proved that already against Gomersal and Howden Clough. Lets use this game as a reminder that we have to work hard against any team, and we can’t expect to win games just by turning up! However….bear in mind…its only a friendly. Im just pleased we had a run out, a bit of fitness and a wake up call…
