Match Report v Barugh Boys (Away) 18/10/2009 Empty Match Report v Barugh Boys (Away) 18/10/2009

Wyke were defeated away from home against and strong and well organised Barugh today. It now means Wyke have suffered 4 straight league defeats and they will be hoping to turn around their fortunes in the next few games.

As usual Wyke started off slowly, and had an absolute disaster of a start. They let a goal in after less than a minute, and Barugh kept attacking, and were rewarded with another three goals. After 10 minutes Wyke found themselves 4-0 down, after crosses into the box were not dealt with. It could have been more as well, Joe Couble was called upon to make a couple of good saves early on.

Wyke did eventually settle into the game and it became a better matched game. Once Nathan and Dominic had switched on, they started to play some good football and Wyke created some good chances. Connor Rhodes used his strength well, and had a couple of chances. Scott Morris also had a chance saved. The Barugh keeper looked good, and Wyke knew they had to really test him today.

Wyke had reverted back to a 4-4-2 formation, and it did start to work well, Owen and Tai at the back were not pushing as far up, so they gave themselves a chance to win balls over the top. Jake and Scott had a tough game on the wings, as the pitch was very big. Jake did his job well and created a few chances, and even had a shot on goal which whistled past the post.

For the last 20 minutes of the 1st half, Wyke were as good as Barugh, and it was a fair game. Wyke must have been cursing their bad start, because although they had given themselves a mountain to climb, the team confidence was high and the lads were really putting in 100%.

Half Time 4-0 Barugh.

Wyke started the second half well. Again Dominic and Nathan were working the ball well in the middle. Scott on the left was outstanding and was supporting Daniel at left back, where much of the Barugh attack was coming from.

Wyke didn’t have as many chances in the second half, the Barugh keeper made some good saves, and was quick out of his goals, meaning Connor had a very difficult job on his hands. Connor did have a couple of chances, and made some good crosses, one for Jake and one for Scott, but neither was put into the back of the net.

The best chance fell to Scott Morris, who had a shot cleared off the line. It wasn’t going to be Wyke’s day today.

However Wyke battled on, and defensively put in a good effort against a strong Barugh attack. Owen and Tai complimented each other well in defence, and they supported each other. Louis and Danny had a tough game against strong wingers, and put in a good effort.

Wyke eventually let in another two goals late on, but really the bad start was to blame.

Full Time Barugh 6-0 Wyke.

Goals: None

Man of the Match: Scott Morris. Scott’s 2nd MOM in two weeks. Scott worked so hard today, he was in a tough spot on the left wing, and he worked very hard. He didn’t stop running all match. He helped Danny out at left back, and created some good attacking play, especially in the second half.He links up so well with Connor, and Wyke were unlucky not to get a goal. Scott was also unlucky not to get on the scoresheet.

Manager Comments

Not the result we wanted today......BUT!!!!! It was a much better performance than the last few weeks. We had more belief and confidence as a team, I was pleased to hear positive comments from players at half-time, even though we had a massive task at 4-0 down. We battled right until the end of the game, and that was why we played well. The result doesn’t reflect the performance..We didn’t do enough to win, and I think we know that, but Barugh are a really good team, and they showed that today. Andy mentioned last week that we always start off bad!! We need to try and get out of this habit, because if we had kept the game at 0-0 after 10 minutes, we had the confidence to go on and win the game. Even with the good team spirit we had today..coming back from 4-0 was a massive task. Well done for keeping going today boys, we did work very hard, and I think we should be pleased with the performance today. 
