Annual Parents Meeting September 2009

Dear Parents,

Here is an overview of points discussed at our annual parents meeting for you to refer to throughout the season.

Welcome

We would like to welcome Matthew Clarkson (Bailey’s Dad) as our new assistant coach to Hayden. He will be helping out during training our sessions and matches. The club will be putting Matthew through his F.A level one coaching badge this season.

Gemma McConville (Ethan’s Mum) has also joined the team. She will support the coaching staff in collecting registration fees, monthly subs, general administration, fund raising (the raffle, calendar, kit sponsors) and social events. She also attends the monthly committee meetings.

Home Games

We need parents to arrive at the home games half an hour before kick-off to ensure that the goals and barriers are erected in plenty of time. At the end of each game we would also like help putting this equipment away.

We run a raffle at every home game. The money raised from the raffle is used to benefit the boys. Last year the money raised went towards the cost of holding a Christmas party at Richard Dunn Sports Centre. Also at Easter the boys received an Easter egg each. We feel this benefits the boys and encourages team building, therefore with parental help we would like to continue with this throughout the season. At the meeting it was agreed that parents would take turns in providing a raffle prize at each home game. Daniel’s father volunteered to donate the first prize, a rota for future home games will be drawn up shortly.

The pavilion should be open on most home game weekends for hot and cold drinks as well as snacks.

Away games

When we have an away match we meet at The Westfield Pub on Westfield Lane and follow Hayden in convoy to the match venue. We will also make the match location available to you by text message each week. If people wish to go straight to the away ground, please just let one of us know. Hayden would appreciate a text message to confirm that you would like to follow in convoy so we don’t waste time waiting for people who may not be coming or have made other arrangements.

Please could parents be aware that the teams we visit generally also run a match day raffle, which we should try and support. Thank you.

Team Names

It was suggested that instead of calling the teams on match days ‘A’ and ‘B’ (at present we do not this, they are either playing in the first or second game), we call each team a separate name, e.g. Wyke Wanderers Tykes and Wyke Wanderers Kickers?? All suggestions welcome, this will not be able to be changed on the league fixtures this season but match reports etc will still be changed.

Attendance

We understand that occasionally children are unable to attend matches and training sessions due to illness and parents work commitments etc… however both Hayden and I would greatly appreciate you contacting us at your earliest convenience if you cannot attend a session.

Last season session attendance was an issue at a couple of fixtures, mainly due to no notice been giving that people could not attend. It is usually expected that we will play two games each match day; however when team numbers are low this becomes very difficult and is unfair on the opposition. With the additional numbers of players that we have this season, this should not be as big a problem. The club have to meet F.A regulations on time that the juniors play in one day, so it would be against the regulations for the players to play in two matches. For this reason we need to know if people cannot make matches. Please let me know if you cannot attend a particular fixture.

Sponsorship

This year the committee at Wyke Wanderers has asked our team to find £200 pounds worth of sponsorship for the clubs annual calendar. The sponsors will receive an advert on our team’s page in return for their sponsorship. Each advert costs £50 however it is possible to have a larger advert at a cost of £100, £150 or £200. We are asking that you ask your employers and local businesses to whom you are familiar with to sponsor the calendar! Alternatively, maybe you would like to advertise your wedding anniversary or a big birthday coming up during 2010?

It is also possible to have your children’s birthdays put on the calendar at a cost of £5, please let Gemma know if you would like to do this.

We also need to find a sponsor for a new kit, this will cost around £400-£500 and we would again be grateful if you could ask around on the team’s behalf if you know of anyone that may be interested in doing this. I do have a request for sponsorship letter that I am starting to use, if you would like a copy to give to any interested parties please ask.

Training Tops

Hayden has received sponsorship for some outdoor training tops; each team member will receive one with their initials embroidered on it. They have been ordered and are expected to arrive in the next month.

Grants

It was brought up at the meeting about applying for grants. The club are at present looking into this with Hayden working on one application with another coach which will benefit the younger age groups.

Parents Social

On Friday the 2nd October we would like to invite all the parents to come out and have a drink or two with the coaching staff. It would be nice if we could strengthen the friendly supportive relationship we already have amongst us especially as we will be stood on the side lines together for many, many, many year to come (sorry for reminding you your child is ONLY 7 or Cool.

The Committee are also looking in to the possibility of hosting a Christmas party for the parents and coaching staff of all Wyke Wanderers teams over the Christmas period. We hope you will join us then too? Provisional date for this Friday 11th December, venue: Scholes Cricket Club.
