Wyke 3-7 Norristhorpe.

Wyke suffered their third friendly defeat of the season, against a strong Norristhorpe team today.
Things didn’t go well from the start, when Wyke found themselves 1-0 after 4 minutes, and then conceded another 2 goals in the following 15 minutes. Wyke’s passing was very sloppy, and they couldn’t hold any possession, and Norristhorpe kept counter attacking and catching the Wyke defence out.

Wyke did create a couple of the chances in the first half, Connor Rhodes had a couple of long range efforts saved, and one went wide, but Wyke certainly weren’t reaching their potential with the 4-2-3-1 tactic.

Nathan scored a cracking free-kick to put Wyke back into the game, striking the ball into the roof of the net, leaving the keeper no chance.

However Wyke let another goal in before the half was brought to a close.

Half Time- Norristhorpe 4-1

Wyke came out of the second half a totally different team. Wyke started to attack well, with Scott Morris and Quinn making some great attacking runs, Connor Rhodes continued to play his socks off in the midfield. The defence was more settled with Dom Pickersgill and Tai Pedder at the back, and usual Keeper Joe Couble put in a fine display in defence when he came on in the 40th minute.

Wyke continued to have chances, with Scott Morris placing a shot into the keepers arms, and then hitting the bar, also Nathan had a shot deflected away. However Wyke were finally rewarded for their constant attacking when Jack Lamch scored a well placed header. Wyke were back in the game, at 4-2. Then Jack Lamch did it again, blasting the ball from 10 yards into the back of the net. A fine strike from Jack, and he was very unlucky not to score a hatrick, when he hit the bar later on. Connor had another couple of chances, but put them wide, however he played extremely well at creating play, and made some superb through balls to Scott, Quinn and Nathan.

Wyke had chances to get back into the game, but unfortunately it wasn’t to be. Wyke fell asleep towards the end, and heads went down, Norristhorpe scored another three goals in the last 8 minutes of the game to end any Wyke hopes of a comeback.

Final score 7-3.

Goals: Nathan Khan, Jack Lamch x2

Man of the Match: Connor Rhodes: Connor was unlucky not to score today, he was very positive in his striking and had a good few shots, he was a little unlucky not to get on the score sheet, however his passing was very good today, and he made some excellent throughballs. Also his crossing into the box caused loads of problems for the Norristhorpe defence.

Dave’s Comments

It wasn’t an easy game today, Norristhorpe showed they are a very good team. I think they will be one of the best teams in the league. We didn’t play anywhere near how well we can do in the first half, and for 20 minutes of the second half, we were by far the better team, and really on another day we could have gone on to equalise, if not take the lead. But our finishing wasn’t as good as Norristhorpe’s and they scored almost every effort they had. We worked hard today, if we continue with those performances we should be ok for next season! Keep your chins up boys!!
