The A team were unlucky to lose a close encounter against Battyeford.

The hosts went in front in the first minute but Wyke soon equalised when Lewis set up Charlie for a great goal. Connor made some smashing stops in goal to keep the score down. Lewis had a shot saved. Zachary sailed one wide and Ethan found the keepers arms too with a good shot. Battyeford went back in front on the stroke of half time when a low hard shot beat Connor at the near post.

Matthew came on for Ethan in the second half, went in goal and made some fine saves. Battyeford scored again to go 3-1 up but Wyke didn’t give up. Connor set up both Zachary who shot wide and Charlie whose shot was saved. Lewis tried his luck but again the keeper saved well and time ran out.

The B team won a thrilling second game.

Nathan was called upon to save in the first minute but was helpless in the second when Battyeford went 1-0 up. Nathan made more good saves as Wyke struggled to get out of their own half. Jarad and Adam played well at the back while Ethan and Matthew threatened to break away up front. Matthew had the only Wyke chance in the first half but was wide of the mark with his shot after making a fine solo run.

Jarad went in goal for the second half and it only took a few seconds for Ethan to score the equaliser after a determined run. Matthew was unlucky to see a good shot hit the post and Ethan’s follow up was well saved. Ethan then played in Matthew but he shot wide. Matthew had another shot saved after a fine dribble before Ethan put Wyke 2-1 in front with a great effort. Battyeford fought back and soon brought the scores level again at 2-2. Ethan, Adam and Matthew then made way for Lewis, Charlie and Connor. Connor made a good run out of defence and passed to Nathan who fed the ball on to Lewis but his shot was well held by the Battyeford keeper. Charlie then played a long ball to Nathan who when one-on-one with the keeper was brought down from behind and a penalty was awarded. Lewis coolly placed the ball in to the bottom corner of the net to make it 3-2 to Wyke. Battyeford were nearly handed a quick equaliser when Connor’s header flew back of his own post and the hosts pushed up for the last few minutes. Nathan stayed up front and Connor found him with a long clearance to put him one-on-one with the keeper again. Just as he was about to pull the trigger he was brought down from behind again and another penalty was awarded. This time Nathan took it himself and just like Lewis, found the bottom corner to make it 4-2 and the game was safe.

Nathan Aylott was MoM
