Gomersal Cleckheaton had already caused
Wyke a mini upset two weeks ago, denying them all three points in a
1-1 draw. Wyke needed a three pointer to help them continue with
their title ambitions. Wyke are still unbeaten from the first week in
September, however Gomersal's confidence was high after a fantastic
2-0 victory over Savile Town last week.

Wyke ran out 8-0 victors. It was a game
they totally and utterly dominated.

The Wanderers looked very strong from
the off, and it only took them 5 minutes to open the scoring. Damien
Hields played the ball forward to Connor Rhodes, Connor showed great
strength to muscle off the last defender and blasted the ball into
the top corner, what a way to end his 2 game drought. Wyke now led
1-0.

Wyke had a few more chances to extend
their lead, Jake put a Connor cross over the bar, and Nathan buried a
shot into the keeper. Damien also had a long range effort narrowly
drop over the bar.

A second goal was on its way for Wyke.
Gomersal had very little play in the opposition half, and the Wyke
defence didn't even give them a sniff of the goal. Toby Stanley and
Tai Pedder were well organised and did very well to dispossess any
Gomersal attack very quickly. There was also not much play coming
down the flanks, Louis Muff and Mudiwa Tegama were doing a very good
job of defending their wings.

The second goal came after 16 minutes.
Damien was once again the provider, feeding through Connor Rhodes,
Connor had a great first touch and then fired past the keeper again
for his and Wyke's second goal.

Mikey Brooksbank was running the show
for Wyke early on, in a very fluid position up and down the pitch, he
put in some key tackles in the middle and Wyke had total control of
the game with Damien Hields and Nathan Khan dominating the centre of
midfield. Mikey's hard working was rewarded as he scored a wondergoal
on the stroke of 23 minutes. Mikey ran across the middle of midfield
taking on 3 Gomersal players in the process, and then he broke down
the left and fired a shot from 30 yards, which lobbed the keeper and
fell into the goal. What a brilliant goal, and Wyke now had a
comfortable 3-0 lead.

Wyke continued to play superb football.
Scott Morris was creating so many chances down the left and was close
to adding to the tally. Damien Hields also had a long range shot
ricochet off the bar. Jake Gilderdale also looked very dangerous down
the right, a change from his usual centre-half position.

Half Time- Wyke 3-0.

Wyke started off as strongly as the
first half, and looked like extending their lead from very early on.
Scott played in Connor Rhodes, who took on a defender and 1 on 1 with
the keeper, coolly finished to earn himself another hatrick after
only six minutes. Too hot to handle at the moment from Connor
Rhodes!!

Gomersal did create a few chances in
the second half, however Tai and Toby were so well organised.
Gomersal couldn't get past them. Also Mikey Brooksbank had dropped
into more of a defensive role and had continued to work tirelessly,
he was an absolutely brilliant.

Wyke's dominance continued with Damien
Hields putting in another exceptional performance, both tenacious and
clever play from the central midfielder.

15 minutes gone in the half, and Connor
returned the favour this time feeding through Damien Hields who
outpaced the last defender, the keeper came out and the ball
rebounded and landed very nicely to Scott Morris, who had the easy
task of popping the ball into an empty net, which he did with ease.
5-0 Wyke.

Calvin Barker, making his debut for
Wyke Wanderers in goals had a very easy start! He had a couple of
catches to make, which he took very well, but Gomersal didn't really
offer much in the way of testing opportunities.

The last 20 minutes of the game saw
Wyke have chance after chance, they were totally controlling the
match.

Nathan Khan, back in centre midfield
after being given a 10 minute breather, was top class in the middle,
every ball went through him and he was the focal point to Wyke's
attacks, holding the ball up well and playing in Jack Lamch and
Connor Rhodes. Nathan was awarded a goal for his efforts, with 18
minutes to go. Jack Lamch played in a corner which wasn't dealt with
by Gomersal, Damien had a shot saved and the ball scrambled in the
six yard box until it landed at Nathan's feet and he fired it into
the back of the net. 6-0 Wyke.

Wyke certainly didn't sit back on their
lead. Mudiwa Tegama was brilliant up and down the right wing, and
played some very clever football with Jack and Nathan.

12 minutes to go, Wyke turned a
Gomersal corner to their advantage, Mikey Brooksbank cleared a corner
to Connor Rhodes. Connor got the ball and ran 60 yards with the ball,
constantly holding off a last defender, he got close to goal and
showed great composure to place the ball under the keeper, an amazing
4 goals for Connor today, and Wyke now had a 7-0 lead.

Only a minuten after Connor's
wondergoal, he was once again involved in the action. He played a
cross of utter perfection through to the feet of Mudiwa Tegama,
Mudiwa very cleverly placed the ball into the bottom corner with the
outside of his foot leaving the keeper with no chance. A great goal
and a great assist. Wyke had a well deserved 8-0 lead.

All credit to Gomersal who continued to
battle on, however Wyke had no intentions of missing out on their
first clean sheet since 25th April 2010, after a 5-0
victory over Kirkheaton.

Full Time- Wyke 8-0 Gomersal
Cleckheaton

Goals

Connor “Torres”
Rhodes (5, 16, 41, 58), Michael Brooksbank (23), Scott (50), Nathan
Khan (52), Mudiwa Tegama (59)

Man of the Match: Connor
Rhodes. An incredible performance from the big striker today. Its
been a frustrating couple of weeks for Connor after a 2 game drought,
but from the off he was brilliant, not only scoring 4 goals, he also
set two up and was just too good for Gomersal to handle.

Dave's Comments

Wehey!! A clean
sheet at long last. I was so pleased with the team performance today,
as I Pointed out we did have some brilliant individual efforts, but
the important thing is we played clever and attractive football, and
we never looked like letting our lead slip. It has to be one of the
best performances we have ever had considering the same team managed
to snatch a draw from us 2 weeks ago.

I don't know if
you have noticed but Northowram lost 5-3 today, meaning if we win our
games in hand we will go top by 3 points, so now the league is in our
hands!!

Well done today
though boys, a great performance!
