Wyke headed to Batley Phoenix in the hope of extending their
unbeaten run to six games. Wyke Wanderers were looking unbeatable at the
moment, and Batley Phoenix knew they were in for a tough match.

The fans certainly got their money’s worth!!! 15 goals in
the game has to be the highest scoring game for Wyke Wanderers ever! Wyke were happy to have scored 10 of those to
win 10-5.

It was a slow start for the Wanderers, with Batley Phoenix
looking more fired up for the game. They kept winning the ball in midfield and
Wyke looked a little bit vunerable.

However after the usual 5 minute slow start, Wyke then took
the lead, a throw in from Danny McGregor was controlled by Mikey Brooksbank who
turned and fired the ball past the keeper from 25 yards. What a great strike,
and Wyke were now leading 1-0.

A minute later,
Phoenix were back in the game, when their striker latched onto a ball over the
top, and chipped the ball very cleverly over Joe Couble.

Wyke’s reply was instant! Connor Rhodes broke down the left
and smashed a shot at goal, it rattled the crossbar and Mikey Brooksbank was
there with an easy tap in for his and Wyke’s second goal.

A minute later, Connor Rhodes was the architect of another
goal, his long shot was parried by the Keeper and Danny McGregor was there with
a tap in, giving Wyke a 3-1 lead.

Wyke then scored their 3rd goal in 4 minutes, Joe
Mcloughlin’s diving header from Mikey’s corner, was saved off the line, Joe
then had a follow up shot which was blocked, but luckily he got a third chance
which he fired into the net. Wyke now had a 4-1 lead.

Joe McLoughlin was then the key man again making a diving
goal line clearance, which could have changed the tide of the game had it gone
in.

After 13 minutes, Connor Rhodes almost extended the lead,
when he powered a shot towards goal, but the Phoenix keeper pulled off a great
save. However almost 20 seconds later, it was Batley Phoenix who got the goal,
from a break down the left, leaving an unmarked striker an easy tap in.7

Wyke had another couple of chances, Connor Rhodes had a shot
wide, and Mikey Brooksbank hit the bar, but on the mark of 25 minutes, Connor
Rhodes created another goal, he shot forcing the keeper to make another good
save and Jake Gilderdale was there with an easy shot into an open net, he did
well to get into the position and it fell perfectly for him. Wyke 5-2.

Joe Couble put in a very good save before half time, palming
a good shot just around the post.

Wyke had started very well with Connor Rhodes putting in a
perfect first half performance, and Wyke looked so strong whilst attacking.
However Batley Phoenix also looked strong whilst attacking, and they created
some dangerous plays which Wyke struggled to deal with. Tai and Louis had a
tough job of keeping the Wingers out.

Danny McGregor had created so many chances down the left
wings, and Wyke were playing some good attacking football.

Second Half

The second half started off very quietly, with no goals and
not many chances to mention, especially considering the first half had seen 7
goals.

However the ten minute goal drought didn’t last long, Mikey
Brooksbank gave the visitors a 6-2 cushion, controlling the ball and flicking
it over the keeper, leaving him an open net to finish into. Mikey now had a
well deserved hatrick.

At the other end, Joe Couble was called into action making
two very good saves, and one from a 1 on 1. Wyke had a four goal lead, and they
were very keen to keep hold of it.

Batley Phoenix were then punished for not taking their
chances, A beautiful cross from Mikey Brooksbank found Connor Rhodes. Connor
hadn’t had much luck with his scoring today, but he didn’t miss this one. Wyke
now led 7-2.

Wyke’s second half performance had greatly improved,
especially at the back. Tai Pedder and Joe McLoughlin were doing a good job at
the back, with Jake Gilderdale and Louis Muff keeping it tight at the back.

Nathan Khan and Scott Morris were being much more
competitive in the second half, and winning almost every ball. Scott Made some
good forward passes, and some great forward runs which kept the Phoenix defence
on the back foot. Nathan Khan was playing fantastically, he mopped up every
loose ball in the middle, and seemed to
be the first to every ball.

With 10 minutes to go things got worse for Batley, when a
loose ball in the box fell to Joe McLoughlin, who coolly placed it past the
keeper, two goals for Joe today, not a
bad effort for a defender.

Wyke then had a five minute off spell, where Batley scored
two goals. The Wyke defence had switched off a little and Phoenix punished
them. Wyke still had an 8-4 lead.

Dom Pickersgill returned from the bench in midfield and Wyke
seemed to have a little better control in the middle.

Mikey Brooksbank was once again the hero, making a long run
through the Batley defence and scoring from a tight angle to give himself four
goals, and Wyke a 9-4 lead.

Batley scored another goal in the last minute, once again it
was a little bit sloppy at the back, but Batley Phoenix had kept pressing and
they did deserve another goal.

With seconds to go Wyke reached double figures, Tai Pedder
smashed a through ball over the top and Connor used his pace to get onto the
ball, which he fired past the Keeper in style.

Wyke win 10-5

Goals

Mikey Brooksbank x4, Connor Rhodes x2, Joe McLoughlin x2,
Jake Gilderdale, Danny McGregor.

Man of the Match (x2)

Danny McGregor (given by Andy): Danny put in a great
effort on the left wing today, he worked hard up and down the line throughout
the game, and set up several efforts for Connor Rhodes which led to some goals.

Mikey Brooksbank (given by Dave) Mikey was brilliant
today, bagging an incredible four goals and setting up two others. His teamwork
with Connor Rhodes was phenomenal today, and he was a constant threat for the
Batley Phoenix defence.

Hey we scored 10 goals!! What an achievement... It wasn’t
our best performance of the season, but who cares...? Scoring 10 is great, and
yes we fell asleep at the back a little bit but it doesn’t matter that much, especially
when we are attacking like we are! Today was another great result, so we should
be very pleased with it today! Well done guys this is brilliant J
