Wyke 1-3 Lepton Highlanders

Wyke were knocked out of the 1st round of the
League Cup, losing the game 3-1 to Lepton Highlanders.

Wyke had it tough in the first half, with an uphill struggle
on a steep pitch, along with the sun in their eyes. They started reasonably
well, considering they were at a disadvantage.

Defensively, Wyke started well, Joe Mac and Tai Pedder made
easy work of any attack Lepton produced. At the other end of the pitch, Wyke
created a few attacks but not strong enough to test the Lepton Keeper.

Wyke let in a goal after about 8 minutes, and suddenly
Lepton were on top of the game, and were unlucky not to extend their lead.
Nathan made a crucial goal line clearance to keep the game 1-0 going into half
time.

Wyke were still in a good position, with the advantage in
their favour now, and they were only trailing by 1 goal which wasn’t a
disaster.

Within the first minute of the second half, Wyke responded
with a goal. Connor Rhodes crossed the ball into the box and it wasn’t dealt
with by the defence, and it gave Scott Morris a chance to slot the ball into
the back of the net. Wyke were back in the game.

Wyke continued to attack for the next 10 minutes, and were
unlucky not to take the lead, there were a few dodgy decisions from the referee,
where offside decisions were made, and this led the Wyke players to become a
little frustrated.

Lepton broke through with 15 minutes to go, and restored
their lead. It was against play, but it was well finished, after the defence allowed
the striker an easy chance to score.

Heads went down, and Lepton started to play really well, and
defensively they played very well, keeping Connor Rhodes out of the game.

Lepton scored another to add a final blow to Wyke Wanderers.

Nathan was unlucky not to score late on, after a good save
from the Lepton Keeper.

It wasn’t Wyke’s day today!!

Goals: Scott Morris

Man of the Match: Scott Morris: Scott played well today, he
worked hard, as usual, in both midfield and striker. Scott created a few
chances for his team mates, and he made a good job of attacking against a
strong defence. He held the ball up well in the first half, and there was some
good link up play between him and other players.

Manager Comments

Today was one of those days!! We didn’t play particularly
badly, although it wasn’t our best performance. Lepton played well, and in all
honesty they did deserve to win. I know we weren’t happy with the referee
today, but we can’t blame him for the result. Its only the cup though, lets
turn this result around next week and get on with it!!

Keep working hard guys and we will be back to winning ways
next week!!
