Without a game since mid-November, Both
Wyke and Queensbury were returning to league football with a lack
of match practice. Both teams had already met earlier in the season,
and Queensbury had managed to squeeze a 7-6 victory against Wyke who
had had a lot of players missing.

Wyke were out for revenge, and to prove
their title credentials, and they gave a fantastic performance to win
8-4, as always with the Wanderers a high scoring game, but in
fairness, Queensbury rode their luck to get 4 goals, in a game which
Wyke totally dominated for much of the match.

Another brilliant start for Wyke, who
looked very strong and really made an effort to get at Queensbury. It
only took two minutes to break the deadlock. Connor Rhodes fed the
ball to Mikey Brooksbank, Mikey chipped the ball over the keeper to
make it 1-0.

After only 5 minutes, Wyke extended
their lead again. Abel Mariwandi put in a great challenge and Damien
Hields picked up the ball, he played Connor Rhodes through, Connor
proved to be too strong for the last defender and placed his shot in
the bottom corner. 2-0 Wyke.

Wyke continued to attack, Connor Rhodes
was brilliant down the left, and his cross was met by the foot of
Mikey, who shot wide from a volley, Connor also had a shot wide and
Damien Hields had a shot well held by the keeper.

On the stroke of 15 minutes, it was 3-0
to Wyke. Jake Gilderdale put in a very well timed challenge and
played the ball through, The Queensbury defender couldn't deal with
it and Mikey capitalised on the mistake, the keeper was quick to rush
out but he coolly rounded him and placed into an open net.

Less than a minute later, at the other
side of the pitch Nathan Khan put in a tough challenge in the area,
but it was deemed a foul and Queenbury scored from the penalty. 3-1.

Wyke's response came only three minutes
later. Jake Gilderdale once again gained possession of the ball and
played it out wide to Abel. Abel played it forward towards Scott who
turned well and played in Connor Rhodes down the left, Connor swung
in a cross of sheer class, and Mikey met the ball, tapping it past
the keeper to earn him a fantastic hatrick, and a 4-1 lead for the
Wanderers.

There was more action to come before
half time! Queensbury struck another goal back, the ball somehow
managed to trickle its way past Joe McLoughlin, making it 4-2, but
Wyke got another goal back to restore their lead, Connor Rhodes was
the supplier once again after another brilliant break down the left,
this time Damien Hields controlled the ball brilliantly and gave
himself loads of time to pick a spot, he placed the ball well past
the goalkeeper giving Wyke a 5-2 lead.

Wyke came close to extending their lead
even further. Mikey took a quick freekick, and Scott Morris was
through behind the defence but put the ball wide.

Just before the whistle went, there was
a final twist, as Queensbury managed to find another goal, Abel was
caught in possession, and Joe McLoughlin came out to punch and cross,
it hit a Queensbury player and deflected and went in. Very unlucky
for Wyke, and they won't have believed the score was only 5-3.

Half Time 5-3.

It was a nervy start from the
Wanderers. Queensbury looked motivated by their late goal in the
first half.

Mikey and Connor looked a little tired,
and with Skipper Nathan Khan having to shrug off an ankle injury,
Queensbury had a lot of the play early in the half. The Queensbury
striker slid the ball past Joe McLoughlin after 10 minutes to make it
5-4. After all Wyke's first half dominance, they now looked like
throwing it all away.

The ball kept coming back to Wyke, and
to their credit, they defended very well, Jake Gilderdale was having
an excellent day, getting some very important challenges in, and also
cutting out a lot of through balls.

After 14 minutes, came the turning
point of the match, Scott Morris broke down the left and played a
great one-two with Mikey, Scott was through and had a shot, which was
saved but Jack Lamch pounced on it, and smashed it home. Wyke now had
a 6-4 lead, and a well needed change in their fortunes.

Wyke continued to battle on, but with
no subs, it was apparent they were tiring. The lack of match practice
was starting to show from both teams. However Wyke continued to look
strong at the back, Tai and Jake did well to cut short any attacks,
and Joe McLoughlin was called in to make a very good reflex save.

The Wanderers totally dominated the
last 15 minutes, they could have had 7 or 8 goals. It had now turned
into shooting practice, but Scott, Damien, Mikey and Connor all had
shots saved by the keeper.

With 12 minutes to go, Scott had
another great run down the left, he muscled with the last defender
and got a shot in, somehow it managed to go in, past a defender and
goalkeeper, a well deserved goal from Scott, another hard working
performance from him today.

Within the last three minutes, Wyke put
the game beyond all doubt, Mikey Brooksbank flicked the ball over the
last defender and Jack fired the ball past the keeper.

Wyke could have had so many more goals
towards the end, but they will be happy with an 8-4 victory against
the only team to beat them this season.

Full Time- Wyke 8-4 Queensbury

Goals

Michael
Brooksbank (2, 15, 19), Connor Rhodes (5), Damien Hields (24), Jack
Lamch (49, 78), Scott Morris (59).

Man of the Match (3)

Some top
performances today boys! It could have gone to 7 or 8 of you today,
but I have had to narrow it down to 3.

Scott Morris: Another
top performance from Scott today. Not only does he never stop
working, but he creates so much down the left wing. He got a well
deserved goal today, but his creative play today was brilliant.

Damien Hields: Damien
showed his quality today. He is so confident and calm on the ball. He
plays possession holding football, always looking pass and bring his
team mates into the game, instead of lumping it forwards.

Jake Gilderdale: Jake
was very good today. He played intelligently today, reading the game
well and cutting out some key balls through the middle, he was also
very strong in the tackle and his distribution was very good,
creating two goals.

Dave's View Smile

This was an
excellent performance today. Well done! I was pleased to see so many
of us having a good game. That being said, I think we need to
sometimes keep our focus and not sit back after taking the lead.
Queensbury were very lucky to get 4 today, because we actually
defended very well, and we could have had 18 goals today never mind
8, but we have to be very pleased to win 8-4 today. We had no subs
and I could see some of you were very tired. Well done for working so
hard, I know its not easy after a long gap! Great effort.
