This week's opposition were the
familiar Scholes Utd, who Wyke defeated 7-3 earlier on in the season.
After Wyke's frustrating draw against Gomersal last week, they were
ready to get back to winning ways. Although it was never going to be
an easy match, against one of the strongest defences in the league,
on a very ropey pitch.

Wyke managed to snatch a 4-3 victory,
Scholes will have every right to feel aggrieved they went home with
nothing in a very tight match.

Wyke started the game well, and had a
few early chances. Connor Rhodes and Mikey Brooksbank each had a
chance to open the scoring but their shots were easily collected by
the goalkeeper.

Scholes also had some chances to take
the lead, after 10 minutes they became dominant, and gave Wyke
several problems at the back. Joe Mcloughlin made some safe saves
early on, but Scholes kept finding gaps in the Wyke defence, and they
were eventually rewarded with a goal after 18 minutes.

There couldn't have been a better
response from Wyke, within a minute of scoring, Scholes were
instantly pegged back, Connor Rhodes did excellent to get hold of a
long ball, and he used his strength to gain possession of the ball,
his cross was met by Tai Pedder who turned out the defender and
slotted past the keeper.

Wyke suddenly looked like a different
team, now growing in confidence, they further extended their lead
after 22 minutes. Mikey Brooksbank's long throw was received by
Connor Rhodes, Connor slotted it through to Scott Morris who was
unmarked in the box and easily slipped the ball past the keeper.

A minute later Wyke had another goal,
Mikey played the ball to Connor who tried to find space to score, he
hit a slow shot past the keeper but it struck the post and came back
at the keeper who had a bit of a nightmare moment and turned it into
his own net.

Wyke continued to look good throughout
the first half. Damien Hields and Nathan Khan were playing very well
together in the middle and Wyke were controlling the game.

29 minutes gone, Wyke scored again,
Damien Hields fed a perfect long ball through and Mikey beat the
offside trap and fired it past the keeper.

Half Time- 4-1 Wyke.

Scholes worked very hard during the
second half and Wyke found themselves defending for most of it. Wyke
did create a few attacks but they were counter attacks, the pitch was
in a very poor state and Connor and Mikey were finding it hard to run
with the ball. Connor had a couple more chances in the half but was
unable to put the game beyond doubt. Mikey and Scott also had chances
but couldn't find the back of the net.

Scholes really gave Wyke a tough time,
Joe McLoughlin made some great saves and did well to punch the ball
several times. Wyke had a lot of corners to defend and they managed
to keep them all out, but Scholes did eventually get a goal back when
the ball wasn't cleared from a corner.

Scholes continued to press, with the
score at 4-2, they felt they could get back into the game.

Scholes had a few penalty shouts in the
second half, firstly Toby Stanley brought down a striker in the box,
and Wyke were fortunate that no penalty was given, and Abel Mariwandi
firstly handled the ball in the box, albeit accidentally and then
tangled with the Scholes right winger, but neither were really
penalties.

Wyke continued to work tirelessly, Tai
and Jake had managed to settle the defence, and Damien and Nathan
were still working up and down the pitch. Scott was also fantastic on
the left wing and was the main source of Wyke's counter attacks.

Scholes continued to press and scored
in the last minute, but it was too late for them and the whistle went
shortly after.

Full Time- Wyke 4-3 Scholes.

Goals

Tai Pedder (19),
Scott Morris (22), Own Goal (23), Michael Brooksbank (29).

Man of the Match: Another
tireless and hard working performance from the Skipper today, he was
the engine of the team, never stopped running and was instrumental
in Wyke regaining possession and creating attacks.

Dave's Comments

Well done boys.
We managed to scrape a win today! I know it wasn't a brilliant
result, but we should be really happy with it, Scholes are a good
team and they will be disappointed that they lost. The pitch was
terrible and it really didn't help us today, we couldn't run with the
ball... and we did well to defend against a strong attacking team.
Well done lads... glad to be back to winning ways.
