Wyke Wanderers 'A' 6 v 1 Howden Clough 'A'

A defeat last week away was now a distant memory or was it? I really felt for the guys last week losing out to a last gasp goal in the dying seconds of the game and for the first time this season Wyke under 9’s A team, knew what felt like to compete for a league place and 3 points.

So a home fixture to visitors Howden Clough. What a cold morning it was too it must have been Pat had his gloves on.

It started with Howden Clough taking the game to Wyke testing Dylan with a shot in the first minute.Wyke’s first counter came from Ryan with rasping shot just wide. After watching the team in training practicing headers a great move came from Bradley chipping a beauty of a ball into the Howden box this was headed on target by Atta and was well worthy of the first goal the Howden keeper couldn’t keep an hold on the ball and could only push it back out to Atta who slotted home to the keepers left 1-0

It was far too early for the Wyke team to be sensing a win but the team just seemed to go from strength to strength, Edward and Ben passing out of defence,Ryan busying around the center looking to push on and Pat and Bradley muscling in whenever needed. Sam and Attar were having a field day with all the supply. Looking at the clock 17 minutes and Dylan had hardly had to make a save on 17 minutes Edward moved up to the half way line to pass a great ball to Ryan who hit a fizzing shot into the top right of the Howden net giving the keep no chance of save 2-0. Half time came and restarted with Bradley hitting a Premier League shot from the edge of the Howden penalty box it looked like he had managed to get the ball to rise and dip (how did he do that ?) the keeper never moved 3-0

For the Wyke forth goal I tried to list the players that had made the goal and it went like this Pat<>Ben<>Atta<>Ben<>Ryan<>Atta hit the target 4-0.

Fifteen minutes into the second half and Ben who had been subbed for a rest was re-introduced replacing Attar who had done enough. I wasn’t long before Ben was on the score sheet for 5-0 rolling one past the stranded Howden keeper. Next it was Sam’s turn after the ball went out he dashed over to the corner to take the corner kick he took a quick one with Ben and after a 1-2 Sam hit another Premier League shot from a tight angle this bent around the away keeper and into the goal 6-0.

2 minutes to go to full time an unfair challenge by Ryan brought about Howdens only goal of the game. The resulting free kick ended up bending round the Wyke keeper (how do they do that?) to finish the game 6-1 and a late consolation for the away team.

Well Done Boys

Wyke Wanderers 'B' 4 v 0 Howden Clough 'B'

A great 4-0 victory at home for Wyke Wanders U9 B Team this week bouncing back from their narrow defeat last week.

Bring on Howden Clough.

Tom Castleton was handed the Captains arm band and like Kyan last week didn’t disappoint with an excellent display of courage and determination leading his team on for the full 40 minutes.

The team formation was unchanged from last week and this is proving to be a formidable setup. Five minutes played and Wyke were certainly on top with some crisp passing and great Midfield work. The difference was clear to see on 5 minutes when Dylan took a pass quickly feeding it to Ibby who hit a first time strike only to be saved by the Howden’s keeper, Ibby didn’t give up, as the keeper couldn’t clear his lines Ibby made a pass back to Dylan who was running in from a deep midfield position. Dylan picked up the ball and hit an half volley which looped the keeper making it 1-0 to Wyke.Although there were some great goals in the match earlier with the A team this to me could be goal of the season ( Unless anyone else can hit one better…Lets see)

By now the sun had come out and a Butterfly flew past….I was quickly brought back to the game on 14 minutes when the away team hit a wicked ball at Ben in goal Mums and Dads knew it couldn’t be stopped and had already started to cheer the equalizer. Ben had other ideas; he pulled off the save of the game, finger tipping the ball over the bar Howden Clough must have wondered what they had to do to score. Tom rallied the team onto half time with Wyke still in front by a single goal.

The referee pulled the 2 teams back onto the field, checked with both keepers and the game was underway for another 20 minutes. The first five minutes battled through midfield with Reece right at the heart of play his new found confidence clearly showed in his football with some strong tackling and fizzing shots in the opposition box today he deserved a goal but was unlucky by inch’s on 2 occasions (bet he’s working on his shooting this week) The next Wyke goal came from a Dylan free kick beating the keeper with a curler for 2-0.Dylans hat trick came when the Howden keeper kicked out but didn’t get the distance, Dylan skillfully took the ball on his chest then volleyed giving the goalie no chance this piece of skill brought a round of applause in stereo from around the pitch.

Ibby made it 4-0 soon after with another mistake from Hoyden’s keeper who tried to get the ball out real quick but not quick enough it was read really well by our striker and Ibby slotted past the red faced chap between the sticks.

Howdens manager had now made a change moving his biggest, tallest player up from in hope of a consolation goal…This nearly paid off in the dying seconds of the game only for the Wyke Captain to run shoulder to shoulder and force the lads balance and although Howdens big striker got his shot away, enough had been done to ensure Wyke B kept a clean sheet at the final whistle.

The manager sat the team down after the game reminding everyone that training was starting to pay off and everyone got a big well done.

Man of the match was Dylan and for me the whole team played superb well done.
